Just followed me home from a gun show and I wanted to know if any here had one and if so ,how did it like different bullet weights ?.

It has a 1/9 rifling and I am curious as to what weight it might love, say for deer and anthing smaller.

Might even use it to cull hogs if it can get through the hides.

Well I gave it a try for you

This is a pic of a Winchester lever gun in 30-30 standard rifle at top

Next is a Ruger Scout rifle in .308

Bottom one and solo are the Mossberg MVP in .223.

I am of the belief that the action is a great deal stronger than a M-4 so it would be safe [ I hope & believe ] to shoot 5.56 X 45 rounds through this.

1:9 might like as heavy as 69gr. 62 for sure. I would try some SMK or game kings. My 1:9 AR likes the 68 and 69gr. I have not tried any heavier in that gun.

Thanks

I am taking all weights from 55 to 72 to range in hopes of finding the right load.

I do not reload for this caliber and doubt I ever would.

I have both Models of MVP the Predator and the Varmint.

I find (as far as accuracy is concerned) they prefer bullets between 40 and 55 grains.

They both have an affinity for the Hornady 50 grain ZMAX/VMAX line of bullets and tend to shoot them very well at just about any speed.

I have gotten good accuracy with Sierra 65 Spitzers as well but most bullets above 60 grains tended to not shoot as well as the Sierra's.

I have used them both for Coyote hunting and they perform well for me.

I haven't had any problems in several thousand rounds through each and find they are accurate and rugged enough for my purposes.

The only criticism I have is that the Predator model's length of pull is fairly short (I'm 6 feet tall).

I added length to the stock here of late by using a Hogue slip on but pad that lengthens it about an inch or so and that makes it a perfect fit for me.

Other than that there's been no negatives with mine and I think you will enjoy yours immensely.

I am of the belief that the action is a great deal stronger than a M-4 so it would be safe [ I hope & believe ] to shoot 5.56 X 45 rounds through this.

These rifles have 5.56 chambers per factory specs.

Very nice collection, indeed! Congrats on the new Mossberg!

Thank y'all

ATCDoktor & C.

Appreciate the info about loads, what was your best groups and at what range/distance ?.

I have a 'few' more rifles but just put the 2 above the newbie to show simularity of the Mossy to the Ruger, and the Winchester was just for a size comparrison.

Wish my nanny state allowed 'cans' as that is THE thing I would get a stamp for --- and even pay additional state tax !.

I have fired a few dept guns with cans and the pleasure of not wearing hearing protection is not measurable.

Groups with mine run about an inch or so at 100 yards with good quality 40-55 grain bullets.

Here's a pic of a 10 round group fired at 100 yards with my MVP Varmint:

Accurate but not "exceptionally" accurate.

Based on my experience with my MVP's, I feel if I slowed down my firing rate and concentrated a little harder I could probably shrink that another 10%.

Certainly accurate for varmint hunting and jackrabbit control:

This one was killed at 300 yards:

Back from the range

Took the MVP out to the range and dialed it in with Hornady 55 grainers at 25 yards to center punching.

Then took it to 100 yards with Federal Gold medal sierra matchking BTHO 69 grain,I am positive it will tighten up if I use a real bench rest - but I was 1" MOA as is.

Also she liked the Black Hills .223 52gr match HP at about a 1/2" larger group.

And the ASYM precision co tactical match grade 68gr OTM [ BTHP ] were sufficient to use on any game too.

So far the last round was the worst at 100 yd's and best I could do was 3" group, good enough but not what I wanted.

I forgot the camera [ as I usually do ] so sorry no pic's.

This rifle is a true pleasure to shoot and I am SURE she will see lots of range and field time.

I really like the concept and look of these new rifles from Mossberg. May I ask where did you find one and what are the street prices? Overall I think if someone spent some time messing about with one checking the bedding etc they will most likely shoot better.

What kind of trigger and trigger pull weight does the MVP have?

The MVP series of rifles uses a trigger that is user adjustable and designed along the lines of Savages Accutrigger.

Both of mine adjust two a weight of about 2.5 ponds and break clean with no over travel.

Gun Show

Got mine at a gun show saturday and I know the dealer and he was FIRM at 569.00 [ included scope ] .

I asked him if there was any 'wiggle room' and he said no,I believe him and am VERY happy with the way it shoots.

I am sure less than MOA is very easy to attain if I use a proper bench rest.

Trigger was spot on as it came --- for me that is.

About 2.5 pounds would seem about correct .

As soon as the Patrol Rifle MVP is released, I'll look into it. I love a bolt action that has back up iron sights (truly there is no reason for any rifle to omit sights).
