Hey does anyone know if a non-resident can open carry in Wisconsin. I'll be heading to northern WI to spend some time with my family. I like to go for early morning walk/hikes when I'm there.

Last year I had a black bear vocalizuing its displeasure with my pressence. I also ran into some drunken derelicts out there. Creepy when you are walking through the woods alone.

I had pepper spray, but I do not have a permit to cc that is good in WI and I do not have enough time to aquire one. Bad planning on my part.

So I was thinking about open carrying on my walks.

Helpful. Thank you.

Some day, I hope we have a map that is all yellow for OC and CC.

About a year or so ago, Wisconsin changed it's law about open carry in a vehicle concerning handguns. New law says it is legal to have an uncased, loaded handgun in a vehicle as long as it is in plain sight. If it is under the seat or in the glovebox it is considered concealed and one must have a permit. This rule change did not affect long guns, they must be unloaded when in a vehicle, but they now do not have to be cased.
