One day last spring I decided I wanted a 25-06. Utter, absolute whim. Did some research, found one on Gunbroker, built on Mauser action, and unbelievably won an auction. I am probably 1 for 503 on Gunbroker.
Anyway got the rifle, and have been shooting it a lot. It is an awesome shooting machine and I love it. I feel I really lucked out. Could not be more happy with a "sight unseen" transaction.
But...
I have noticed that loading the internal mag, and chambering rounds has gotten more and more problematic.
I checked loading manual and 8mm and 25-06 appear to have the same overall length. But, it seems when I load the mag, the cartridges are either sitting to far forward and wont chamber when the bolt is forward or they are two far back and they bolt won't engage them (for lack of a better term).
Additionally, the 5th round will go into the mag, but it pretty much jams it.
I am not totally stupid (well, maybe not) so I have gone to loading only four rounds, but that does not help my chambering issues. It seems I have to spend a lot of time, poking around in the mag, to get a round in the right position to chamber. Once it is there, the groups are very tight! "Happy, happy, happy!"
I have recently gone to single shot mode at range.
Now, for the bad news...I think this has gotten progressively worse. I now have approximately 250 rounds out the barrel, and I don't recall having this problem when I first got the rifle.
Hope this issue makes sense. I can think that a) there is a problem with the weapon itself, or b) I need to do something special since the Mauser was "sporterized" for 25-06.
Hope this resonates with someone, and thanks in advance.
