I have been wanting a cco sized 1911 forever, and I am getting close to finally getting one. I would love to have a Dan Wesson, but they cost a little more than I would like to spend. My search has led me to Sig. The only problem is I can't decide which model I want. There are pros and cons, in my view, in all three. I thought if I could tell you guys/gals what I was thinking maybe you could help me along. So here we go.

Traditional Compact ~$1000 otd
Pros- Traditional slide profile which I like a little better. Also, i think it will be easier to find a holster
Cons- I'm on the fence about the finish. I typically prefer dark finish guns. I only own one stainless gun and I bought it because it was a deal. Also, it will be a carry gun and it has an all steel frame so weight could be a consideration.

RCS ~$1000 otd
Pros- dehorned and dark finish
Cons- Sig slide

C3 ~$900 otd
Pros- a little cheaper and a pretty good looking gun
Cons- Sig slide and its the only of the three without night sights. The night sights are not that important though.

I would love the rcs with the traditional slide, but I guess I just have to decide whether slide profile or finish is more important. Sorry for the long post and I appreciate any input.

I might be wrong, but I believe the Sig style slide is only a problem for Kydex/plastic holsters. I'm pretty sure they'll work fine with most leather holsters.

I've wrestled with that same decision at one time...

I love Sig P-series slide profiles, but no when they use it on a 1911 model...

I love CCO design, as it is PERFECT for concealed carry. (shorter grip=less printing)

With the choices you're looking at, perhaps the darker finish with the Sig slide profile is the best choice?

Leather holsters should work, but kydex is too "specific" of a fit.

I went with the Dan Wesson CCO, after selling my soul and several guns!

The other member is correct. The Sig slide is only a problem with hard holsters like kydex. You won't have any problems with a leather holster. My brother has a C3 and it's a gorgeous gun and shoots like a dream. It's definitely not as nice as a Dan Wesson, but it's also a whole lot cheaper!

If your not in a hurry (want it NOW) and are willing to buy used you can pick them up within reason to the ones your looking at.

I say: buy once, cry once.

I'm also starting to look seriously for a
1911 CCO variant. I don't care for
checkering on the grip area below the
trigger guard Aren't the SIg CCO's all checkered on
the front of the grip area?

I have a Sig Fastback Carry and yes, there is fine checkering on the front strap. It is very smooth checkering though - not too aggressive. It's a fine carry pistol, though of course heavier than one that doesn't have a stainless receiver.

Tarosean- it's not that I can't afford the DW, I just can't really justify spending that much. $1000 is pushing my self set limit.

I guess the first thing i need to do is find somewhere that at least has the traditional and the rcs or c3 so i can compare the slide to see which i like better

I was the same at one time. Till I tried the guns...

The last pistol i bought was a tad north of 3k, at one time I thought it better have an engine and wheels for that kind of change. My downward spiral was when my dealer put an Ed brown in my hand and told me to shoot her.

I ran into the same problem with my Para Ordnance LDA 12.45. It's an officer's size gun, but the slide is just wide enough that it won't fit in a hard plastic holster such as the Blackhawk paddle holster I have for my 1911A1. Ended up using a Tagua FBI belt slide.

I had a Traditional Compact and really liked it, I'd still have but traded it and some cash away for a Clark customized Colt. I actually had two but the first one had a tiny crack in the slide and I called SIGs LE division who had me return the gun and they sent me a brand new one. Interestingly, the new one had a solid trigger (they included a spare standard trigger) and a different grip safety than the other gun, I prefered the one on the second gun. I called and asked about it and was told that they had one put together for me to expedite shipping and the guy that put it together thought I might like the solid trigger better. Go figure.

Anyway, the guy I traded it to is a member on the S&W forum and has my old gun listed in the classifieds there right now for $800 shipped. He's a great guy to deal with and the gun looks like new in the pics, he says it's had under 300 rounds through it, I don't think I put 100rds through it before trading. I've actually considered buying it back but I'm having another Colt built and need to put the money towards that. It would be a great deal if you're looking at one of these guns. His post will be at the bottom of the second or top of the third page of gun classifieds. www.smith-wessonforum.com

Had a little bit of a set back today. Went to a shop that had all 3 guns I am considering. First I looked at the C3 and RCS, and I don't know if I can get past the sig profile slide. They both just seemed significantly wider and "boxier" than the traditional. I'm sure the actual size difference isn't that much, but it sure seemed like it. Then I focused on the Traditional Compact, and I'm still not crazy about the stainless finish or the front serrations. I'm afraid if I settle I will regret it. I don't know what to do!!!

Don't settle.
You will soon tire of "it" and sell it off for a loss (ask me how I know!)

I wish more manufacturers would get on board with the shorter grip/commander slide......

The grip is the hardest part of a gun to conceal, but I hate super short barrels, so the CCO configuration is my favorite.

Keep us posted!

Me, too. I have an STI Spartan IV, the commander sized one. I've been toying around with the idea of ordering a Spartan III lower, and fitting my IV slide to it.

I think it was forum member BigfatDave that had this done to an RIA and I thought it was awesome.

I have seen some pics and read the stories of some people that called and had Arnel (RIA) put together a CCO for them. BigfatDave, as Smalls mentioned, being one of them. I'm kind of curious as to how that process goes. I wonder how willing they are to do that, and just how much money you are looking at going that route. Maybe someone can chime in, but then again I guess I could just call them.

Dan Wesson uses machined parts while Sig uses cast and MIM parts in the guns they build.

For certain parts of the gun it does not make a difference but I like a good machined ignition set for longevity.
