My CZ 75 in.40 has issues with 180 grain bullets.. any guesses why?

So i havent had a chance to run any factory ammo though my CZ

Am I missing something here? I have had a hell of a time working on .380 and 9mm loads in the past (wouldn't chamber), but never a problem with 10mm or .45 ACP.

Try some "factory ammo"?

Yikes. And that's STILL not working? I load mine at 1.130.

1.115 is short for .40, especially a 180 grainer.

The 40 cal CZs that I have seen shoot better with 155 gr.,I never knew why.

Maybe dumb, but that never stops me.:
Make sure the slide rails are well lubed/wet - preferrably sythetic oil. and test for feed again.

The recoil spring CAN be too light and sometimes feed and sometimes not---especially if the rails aren't well lubed or the pistol is very sooty/dirty. (varies with the powder you're using.

If it seems to feed better run wet, buy a spring pak and find the one that will forgive a little crud and still feed and eject. Then still keep those rails well lubed.
It'll sling off what it doesn't need.:D

My 9 mm CZ had the same problem with Remington UMC, which had a SHORTER OAL than bullets that worked fine. It seemed to be just the right length for the bullet to get caught on the top of the chamber, where a longer OAL would slip into the chamber. Tapping the slide usually got it to chamber. A stronger recoil spring also helped. I think the CZs are a bit OAL sensitive.

I think some CZ's can be OAL sensitive, but if you are having problems you can send the barrel to CZ, and they will adjust the chamber length to work reliably.

One post suggested that the OP was loading his rounds too long, and that made sense -- given the specs presented by both parties (but we later found that he had mis-stated his measurements). However, the OP also said that he ws experiencing the same problem with factory ammo: "Ive used American eagle, Federal, Wolf, and some WWB JHP 180s and they all have had issues going into full battery. I can slap the slide and it will go in and be fine."

Seems like it's time to call CZ.

SAAMI specs are not an issue. CZ chamber specs are.
Do the "push test" (see wobbly's info on "PUSH TEST").

If that's not the problem, then the slide release might be if it isn't the latest model with the raised areas smoothed down so it doesn't contact the bullet on the feed. :

Too light of a recoil spring for the heavier bullets or week mag springs can also cause feed problems.
I'd bet on the first two issues mentioned above.

Failure to properly chamber reloaded ammunition can usually be traced to overlong cartridge OAL, too great a neck diameter or a combination of the two.

I load my 180 grain TCs to a OAL of 1.125" with a final stage crimp-only taper crimped neck diameter of .421" - .422". Neck diameter varies .001" since my cast and the plated bullets are generally that much greater in diameter than Jacketed.

They all pass the chamber "plunk" test in my Smith 4006, my Glocks model 22, 23 and 27 (Lone Wolf and Glock barrels) and in my wife's FN FNS-40 and they work equally well in live fire in all guns and barrels.

^^^Its been already established that the problem is not the reloads, it will not chamber 180gr factory ammo either...^^^
I swear no one read the first post:p

The OP said...

But any time I try and shoot 180 grains it will fail to go into battery often. Ive used American eagle, Federal, Wolf, and some WWB JHP 180s and they all have had issues going into full battery. I can slap the slide and it will go in and be fine.
The 180gr rounds do chamber. The rounds are hanging up on something on the way to the chamber.
