Help finding a youth .22 or .17 for a lefty

I have shot right handed rifles all my life with no problem; save yourself the pain, and money, and get a righty.

I've spent most of my life dreaming of owning left-handed guns, both long and short, only to finally realize that at this point in time, I wouldn't know how to handle one if I did have it. I am so used to handling right-handed guns as a lefty, that a left-handed gun would just confuse me. I actually think I can handle a right-handed bolt action rifle quicker than most right-handed people can. The only time it's a real issue is with right-side ejecting bullpups.

If you really want to get him a left-handed rifle, there are several to choose from, but I don't have any personal experience with any of them. A quick internet search will turn up several viable options.

You might as well go ahead and get your son used to right-handed guns so he will be able to shoot anything, anywhere he goes. As he learns how to operate them correctly "wrong-handed", he will reach a point where he doesn't even notice it anymore. I don't.

Then again, maybe I don't know what I'm missing; but it's not looking for backwards parts when something breaks.

So how do you do it? Do you use your right hand, or do you reach over with your left hand?

That's what "I" had to do as a kid... Then when i was in my 20's i bought myself a LH rifle. BOY, did i ever see how much i had been handicaped using a RH bolt all those years.

Then again, i'm a hunter and i like everything to be "right" to give myself every advantage. I've hunted dangerous game a lot, and it would have helped if i had learned the "right way" to use a bolt action rifle, in the first place.

If i had a L Handed kid, the last thing i would do is stick that kid with a RH bolt gun.

There are, or were some LH bolt action youth single shot 22's made, but the brand escapes me right now. I looked them up a year or so ago... Savage MAY have a LH youth rifle too?

Try using a pair of righty-scissors Lefty for anyone who says otherwise.

I think the CZ 452 is the best lefty .22lr bolt action; discontinued, but you can still find them.

Check with CZ, they make'em.

Savage Rascal. What a great rifle for a 6 yo! Super light, well proportioned, and after I replaced the front blade sight with a Lyman 17 globe sight, my daughter has shot groups competitive with the Anshutz and CZ rifles (indoor 50 ft) fitted with diopter sights that cost more than the Rascal! Mind you, as soon as she's able to handle the weight of these unquestionably better rifles, I am sure she will benefit from them. But for little'ns the Rascal is amazing value for money and the rear peep sight is pretty easy to dial in. As is, it is tin can accurate out of the box for a little guy. With a good globe sight and sling, it can be very accurate. Don't know if they have lefty camo stocks, but you can dip or paint one of the plain lefty stocks.

Savage makes several models. They aren't stainless but youth models with the short stock. As he gets older there is plenty of LH 17 or 22 in stainless full size.
Go find a LGS who buys from Ellett I just checked and they have plenty on stock of three different LH savage youth models.

I work the bolt with my right hand. The only issue I have is that I have to be careful not to scrape my left thumb with the bolt if the rifle has a straight comb.

Savage 93R17 LH. I recently bought one. I'm a 55 year old lefty and I recently discovered that Savage makes nearly all of their rifles with left hand bolts.
The Savage 93 has a wood stock that you can cut down for now, and then add spacers to it as he grows up.
I even found a new Stag Arms Ar-15 in a completely left hand design. It actually has a left hand BCG and right side ejection port, plus the forward assist.

Don't give up hope, they're available.
BiMart keeps them in stock, and so does Walmart. You can order them thru Walmarts gun counter. Many gun owners don't know it, but Walmart is the largest gun seller in the world. You can get their gun catalog online and order any gun in it that's legal where you live.

The CZ 452 Left Hand models are still in production along with at least couple of the 452 right-hand models such as the Trainer and Ultra Lux. Here's my (youngest son's) 2013-proofed LH American.


Unfortunately there isn't a Left Handed Scout (the youth-scale 452)

Crickett has a lefty, but it's walnut and blued only.

I'm not aware of any manufacturer with a youth rifle in lefty with camo/SS combination, sorry. Heck, just the lefty part is hard to find.

That would be big news, considering that lots of folks are searching for the LAST of the LH 452's and having a hard time finding them. IF they were still makeing them, how come no one has them in stock and no one on Rim Fire Central knows about it?? At least i haven't seen it there...
