It's been many, many years. As I recall, I ordered some military unarmed-combat manual.
The catalog at the time was full of copies of military manuals... They also had all those lurid titles about dropping out of society and establishing false identities and all that....
The downside is that they sent me the catalogues for YEARS.....

I was sure I was going to be on some FBI watch-list.... If they even had them back then.....

I have noticed the same as Bikewer describes. Some of their output ranks with self published wackadoodle stuff. I could recall several mainstream "how to" gun titles. Overall impression - a low standard, niche publisher.

Yes, I too would describe them for the most part as an "underground type" publisher, but they actually fill a very important role, in that they have at times upset "the officials", and while using the protections of the 1st, give a glimmer of hope that the common man can in some small way disrupt big brother. Some of their stuff is very entertaining, and the mere fact that it may undermine the authorities in some small way makes it even better.

A lot of the stuff I got was outdated material. A gunsmithing book with very old techniques is one that I remember actually opening. Think flintlocks and such.

I got started with an introductory $14.99 book. After that the books were around $50 each. They send one a month. 3 out of four of mine still have the wrapper on them. I got around 12 of them and decided that was enough. I ended up sending a note with an invoice to cancel, and they did.

Paladin is legit. A lot of what you find on Paladin is older stuff. If you simply can't find it anywhere else, Paladin might have it. Their prices are reasonable. They fill a niche.

I'll add one title that I got was Hatchers Notebook. That one I thoroughly enjoyed. And they are legit. I'm just not a big enough reader to justify the cost.

Um, so is it like a book club where once you order something they keep sending you crap and just invoicing you? I got the impression it was more like amazon or something where you order a book when you want it and that's it. I am not into anyone sending me random crap I don't need or want and chargin me for it. If its like that then I will pass.

Yes, similar to a book club. The titles were random, they may have an option now that lets you choose. I never knew what was coming. They sent monthly and charged my card.

If you're looking at US military field manuals, you can probably find an electronic copy online for free somewhere.

I bought a number of their book in the mid-90s. Don't recall a book club type system. More like mail order Amazon.

Paladin at times reminds me of Loompanics, depending on the title. I have bought individual titles, but never signed up for the book club deal.
Man! I remember Loompanics. Those guys were the original tinfoil hatters. Fun books though.

Nothing wrong with Paladin. But like others have said, a little searching and most of the titles they carry can be had in newer versions, and for less. Some of their older, 70-80's "monkey wrenching" titles are interesting to read but seriously behind the times as far as technology and tactics are concerned.

So am I the only one that got suckered into the random monthly book drawing?? Haha.

I searched a little and found the individual titles you guys are referring to. Not the same as the deal I had. Mine was through the NRA, I assumed paladin was owned by them.

I don't know if I ever bought from them but they certainly used to be a big common source, and a publisher/printer I think, of non-mainstream books of all types. I'm sure they were legit and didn't even know they were around anymore -- used to see their ads everywhere.
