You see, I have a choice of two Ruger Single Actions that I have been eyeing for awhile. One is a Ruger Birdshead in 45 Colt. It is used and the price is $389. The other is a stainless NMB in .357 Mag. It's is going for $419. I really like both of these, but can only get one. I like the affordability of the 357 Mag ammo compared to the 45 Colt ammo. I would appreciate your input on this subject.

The 45 would be easier to resell. The birdshead grip is an acquired feel. Rugers are tough and desirable. The 38/357 Magnum pistol has an advantage in economy of 38 shooting and reloading. The 357 Magnum in 180 gr form can take small game. I can only say look at your intentions of use and buy the caliber, the grip, the sights, finish and style that you prefer. My next Rugers are going to be Bisley Vaqueros in 45 Long Colt.

How does the birdshead feel compared to the regular grip shape? I wouldn't want to resell it, so i don't care about resale value.

Depends. Size of hand, finger length, web of hand and how you perceive the balance. My regular Vaqueros feel good to me. My large hands are OK with birdshead grips. The Colt-style Bisley feels "pinched" in my hands but, the larger with less undercut Ruger Bisley is great for my grip and comfortable.

Which you pick is personal preference. I have large hands and prefer the standard Blackhawk/Vaquero grip. I can use, but don't prefer the Bisley grip, and don't care for the feel of the bird's head grip.
Pick what you prefer.

I'd take the Blackhawk in .357. Cheaper to shoot and a nice gun overall.

I have a Blackhawk in .45 Colt and it is fun to shoot, but it will probably need some work to get it to shoot accurately. Expect at least $30 to get a throat job done on it.

I will vote .45 if you have another handgun and .357 if this is your first handgun...
