I realize that this is the Rifle Country forum, but since 99.9999% of FALs are rifles, I figured the FAL experts would be in this forum.

I'm considering trading some stuff for a factory dsa FAL pistol. I know very little about FALs and had a few questions about the trade-

First and foremost, what's the value of a used DSA factory FAL pistol in good condition? I'm not sure if I'll keep it as it's a bit of a novelty and I'm guessing the muzzle blast is a bit rugged.

Next, how do I go about determining the condition? Are there problem areas that I should be looking at?

Lastly, I have a couple of friends that are FAL nuts, so basic info is easy to obtain, but is there anything specific to the pistol platform that I should be aware of?

And I can't help myself - if the FAL is known as the "right arm of the free world", then would the pistol version be the "right hand of the free world". :D

ETA- File image and then a picture of the ACTUAL gun and mags (fuzzy though - waiting on better pictures from seller)-

Added pictures in OP. Apparently they were a very popular platform to SBR. Just add a Para stock (and a $200 tax stamp).

People have complained to me that magazine out of a FAL is too much for them with hearing protection.
Out of that sawed-off beast... yeesh!

Sorry, but that is all I can add to this discussion. One thing though - it looks mean enough that if you don't overpay, you'll almost certainly be able to recover your money if you want to sell it.

Wow....that thing shoots a real rifle cartridge as well....I can only imagine shooting a 308 out of something that short.....If you plan on shooting a bad guy with that you have a better chance of blinding him with the flash as hitting him with that bullet.

But then you will likely set fires as well so I wonder if it comes with a water bottle attachment and not a flash light.

Hmm... How much of a problem would one of these be to put a full length barrel and gas system on?

Buy it, but only if you are going to post a video showing us the fireball. And one of you trying to shoot it with one hand. :D

I'll decide on the one handed-shot after trying it with two, but I think a shot or two would be do-able.

Apparently the muzzle blast is horrendous. But because it's a factory tuned short gas system, it was a popular platform to SBR as they ran reliably with the short barrels. As has been pointed out, it would be a bit of a novelty and I'm trying to prune down my collection as it is. The guy I'm getting it from wants some stuff from me and this was all he had to offer. After a range session or two, I'll likely sell it to cash out, which is what I was trying to do with the stuff for trade anyway.

And in that regard, I'm still curious about the value? They seemed to sell for $1,550-$1,600 when they were available, but I've been told that even the used ones are worth more now because they're difficult to find.

Probably worth about the same as a SBR FAL.

In excellent new condition, probably about 1500.

Good used functional condition about 1100.

Non factory-built, no-warranty equivalent about 800.

Strictly, a "Hey, look at me!" gun.
I've no use for that sort of thing. After a magazine or two, neither will you.

I prefer to teach marksmanship during my fam-fires, as opposed to the "lets take a picture of you shooting the weird gun..." stuff.

girlfriend not included

woo-hoo...

Good used functional condition about 1100.

I would place it in this category. This is less than I was thinking, so I'll have to work on tweaking the deal a bit.

That barrel length will neuter ballistics to what, maybe 2000fps for a 150gr?
That is not what it is about....it is all about HAY LOOK AT ME....LOOK AT ME...ARN'T I NEET.

Like others said I have little use for such an item.....but different strokes, I don't mind watching them.

Don't get me wrong - if I saw one at the range and someone offered to let me shoot it, I'd try it. But if I'm spending money for something practical, I'd go with a rifle or carbine version.

I don't know if the DSA's are supposed to be a ton better, but I know the PTR91 pistols go for right at $1100 brand spanking new. But I really have no idea if one is better than the other. I don find the PTR91's to be "THAT" loud, I think 4" .44magnums are louder.

My plan is to do one or two range trips and then sell it (or trade it). It's nothing I'm excited about, I just want to shoot it for the novelty and then I'm done.

The guy I'm trading with wants something of mine that's for sale and this is what he had to offer, so I'm trying to make the deal work but be able to cash out of the FAL.

The trade is going to be something like the FAL pistol in exchange for an 11" 5.7 AR57 upper (new in box) with 3 magazines ($600ish), a Core15 lower (with parts in but no buffer tube / stock) ($175), a krinker plinker 10/22 conversion ($250ish) and I was originally going to include 16 new in package gen 2 pmags, but this thread has made me think that taking them out is the best course of action and makes the deal still worthwhile.
