My local gun store have 3 xds but with this no fix recall going on I don't know what to do. Should I get the s&w shield?

I believe the shield is now being recalled as well.
I love my xds 9mm but Springfield Armory has had it since September 9th. If you really like the gun and can be patient I would go for it.
I'm surprised your lgs still has them on the shelf, for the public to buy. Seems like they would have sent their xds's back to SA.

That is weird. Mine has been at the factory for one month now. Wish I had it back……

Some Shields are. If you look at one, cycle and dry fire it a few times and make sure the little plastic tab at the rear of the trigger (the drop safety) is deploying consistently. If so -- good to go. If not -- recall. My recently purchased Shield 9 was notable for the drop safety never engaging/deploying, so it went back to S&W for about two weeks to have a brand new trigger pack installed. Runs fine now at zero expense to me.

Check the serial numbers against the recall. They may be out of the recall. Mine ran perfectly but I sent it in anyway. Still had my G27 and 23 to cover handle the duties till the XDs is back. Did not realize how well the XDs conceals till I had to go back carrying the G27.

Surely all XD-S pistols are subjected to the recall. Springfield states that no fix has been identified but if they have pistols that aren't included in the recall they would have a fix i.e. make them like the ones that haven't been recalled.

So......if there is no fix then are they refunding peoples money or what?

Sent from my mind using ninja telepathy.

I really want the 45 xds bad. Anybody thank they will ever be able to fix them?

I have the XDS 45 and I will completely admit that this gun is a accurate shooting, very easy handling gun. With the recall I am hesitant on sending it in with them not knowing how to fix it and then not knowing when I will get it back. I will say that I love the gun and I will keep it just not carry it until they get the glitches figured out.

Take a look at one of the kahr cw line of pistols. Price are in the same range as the shield but it slightly lighter and a fuzz shorter. I have had a cw9 for 4 years and not had any problems with it or the other 2 I have and can be bought in 9mm, 40 or 45.

I basically did not care for polymer pistols until I shot my Gun Buddy's .45 XDs - fell instantly in love but the recoil beat my hand up bad. So I spotted a used one at Scheels with a Talon sleeve on it and *really* resisted buying it even though my Wife said "scoop it up" when I called her.

This happened 1 day before the recall and I feel really, really bad for you guys who have your pistols sent off for what we thought was a repair only to find out the guns are in limbo. Basically Springfield Armory has limited their potential liability by having the owners send the guns in and now they sit there while they look for a cure.

Which will hopefully be a drop in fix and the guns will come back as fast as they got RA's and got shipped out.

Anyway. I don't see an XDs in my future now which really bums me out. I have my heart set on a Glock 26 now but it was the XDs that opened my eyes to what a polymer subcompact could really be. I'm just....really conflicted due to the recall and I'm betting SA loses a lot of potential XDs owners (just like me) over this ordeal.

Badly handled so far.

There is a section on refunds, however they state that it will be on a case by case basis if they decide to do so. Hey, I'd be happy if they just sent me a XD9sc at this point.

Sheeze......

XDS has a recall......

A small % of Shields had a recall

They are both STILL high quality solutions

MOST gun manufacturers have had a level of recall..

Go with the shield. The xds is not figured out yet and probably won't be for a while. The shield is a great gun.

Shield issues are a tiny number of guns, an easily verified problem, and can be fixed and back in your hands in a week. Springfield is all guns with no fix yet. I would like the XDs in .45, but wouldn't buy a recalled gun with no fix in sight. Your dealer is supposed to pull them from the shelves and send them back.

No one knows at this point, including SA it seems.

My two month old XDs 45 has been in their hands for over a month now, with no return in sight. SA claims they're "working on a fix" which means they don't have their arms around this issue yet, if ever. If I were you, I'd sit back and see how this drama unfolds. I certainly wouldn't make a purchase until they get this sorted out.

The XDS really ain't that broke. Some have stated that they go off when the slide is dropped or that they double fire.

Springfield, being safe, sent out a VOLUNTARY recall and everyone panicked (septin' for me) and sent them in.

The problem is that Springfield, not either finding the problem, or not coming up with a fix as of yet, is holding them in a "safety hostage" condition.

Many on the Springfield web site have stated that they put thousands of round through them with zero problems (like me) and are holding on until the smoke clears and Springfield finds a problem and a cure. As of yet, they seem not to have found either. Well, maybe a potential problem but still no fix.

Springfield has even stated that they recalled for pure safety reasons and seem to be willing to take the heat they are getting for calling them in with no real fix on the table.

It is possible that some have had a problem if they dropped the slide and did not have the grip safety depressed. I personally have never and will never do that but if one did, there is a possibility that badness could happen. Who knows?

So we, in the Springfield world, sit and wait. I got my gun, still carry it, still use it at the range and still have had NO problems at all. Others just sit and wait. When the final word comes down and the panic subsides, I will send mine in.

Over and out.

Folks, let's keep the focus of this thread on discussion of single stack pistol alternatives to the XDs. For Discussion of the recall please see the thread linked in Post #20. Thanks.

Pick up a Kahr in whatever caliber you prefer, I like the PM9, and many in here agree if you read past threads on this
