Guess the xds is a no go

Glock 36,bought one recently. It replaces the xds just fine. Plus you get 1 extra round. I'm liking it more every time I shoot it! Didn't think I would ever say that about a Glock but the 36 fits my hand better than any other Glock model. I would like to try a kahr pm/cm 45 but haven't seen one yet in my parts.

I'm not sure why people are saying there's no fix. Perhaps I'm not understanding something here. If so, please educate me.

Here is Springfield Armory's recall link on the XD-S:

http://www.springfieldrecall.com/

Here are a couple excerpts from it:

What pistols are involved?

This Safety Recall applies only to:
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm pistols - serial numbers between XS900000 and XS938700
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols - serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300.

What will Springfield do?

Springfield will send you a return authorization and mailing label, allowing you to return your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol to Springfield at no cost to you. Springfield will upgrade your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol with the new components, and return it to you. Springfield will provide tracking numbers so you can monitor the receipt and return of your upgrades.

Seems to me that you should check the serial numbers of the pistols at your LGS and compare them to the ones above.

Mine has about 1200 rounds now and works great. There is a good thread on XDTalk that describes the problem and how to prevent it. I can duplicate it every time if I try by closing the slide without the grip safety depressed but it is an unnatural feel and I have to try to do it. Bottom line is, if you have the grip safety depressed when you release the slide, it will work normally. I'm not sending mine in for a while (if ever) unless a good fix comes out that doesn't hurt the way the gun feels or shoots. It's a non-issue for me.

Springfield has thousands of returned XDs pistols sitting there and they now publicly admit they DO NOT KNOW what the fix will be.
They are "working" on it...

This is why I wait two years before buying any new design. People should have learned by now with the last few rounds of recalls from major manufacturers.

I am glad I did not run out and buy the XDS. I almost did despite my rule.

Where have they said this? I can't find anything on it.

The recall site itself says there's a fix.

Read thier FAQ page about the recall that was "Updated" last friday...

http://www.springfieldrecall.com/Recall FAQ.asp
As we noted in last Friday's update, our testing of potential upgrade solutions has continued and we are pleased to tell you that we have made significant progress over the last seven days. We have now identified what we believe is our final upgrade solution and throughout this coming week we will be continuing with our thorough and exhaustive testing of that solution.

I usually do too, but if everyone had this rule all the time, these issues would just take longer to discover as it would take longer for enough guns to hit the market and enough people to monkey around with to discover the issue.

So to say people should have learned by now makes no sense. Learned what, to never buy a new product?

AH! Thanks! Just read it.

For those who are interested, here is an excerpt from October 4th's update. Looks like they've found a solution and are in the process of evaluating/testing that solution:

As we noted in last Friday's update, our testing of potential upgrade solutions has continued and we are pleased to tell you that we have made significant progress over the last seven days. We have now identified what we believe is our final upgrade solution and throughout this coming week we will be continuing with our thorough and exhaustive testing of that solution. It's because of our commitment to your safety that we are conducting such extensive testing and we are working as fast as we can so that we can return your upgraded pistol to you.

We understand that our voluntary safety recall has made it inconvenient for you to be without your pistol, and we sincerely apologize for that. We expect to have more definitive information to share with you by Friday, October 11.

As a reminder, do not use your 3.3 XD-S™ until the upgrade has been performed.

Too bad they weren't as committed to our safety BEFORE they lauched the XD-S!!!

Didn't something similar happen with the LCP? I bought one when the recall was nearing its end and luckily didn't have to send it back. look at the LCP now, it's still a moneymaker and a preferred carry option for a lot of people.

the XDs is the first "new" gun i've ever bought. fortunately, i was not in a position where it was my only CCW option after sending it back or else i would have been pretty upset. if it comes back functioning as it did when it left, i'll be happy.

I've been considering getting a sub compact, single stack 9MM, and looked at the XDs, Shield, and Sig P938. I think I am leaning towards the P938 because of the trigger, and I like SA pistols. The Shield is a close second, especially now that I know you can install the APEX trigger kit.

I've got a glock 23 and 27 there to big. I tried carrying them in a sticky holster but it don't work.

OK. This thread is sort of going nowhere. Ugaarguy asked for it to get back on topic, and that never really happened, so I am closing it. Good Night now.
