Scope for 600yd FTR

I currently have a scope that was basically just to get me started. It's a 8-32x44 cheapo.

I eventually would like to save up and get a 15-55 Nightforce, but well, don't quite have the funds yet for it.

What's a good quality scope, that will allow me to see out a good distance x24, x32 but not break the bank? Good repeating ability, clarity, etc... Max $600.

Could I go with a lower power since it would be a better quality scope? I'd really like to see up close though.

I don't know what to recommend, I have Leupolds that cost about $750 some years ago.

But if you go from a cheap scope to a medium scope to a high end scope, when you are done, you will have money sunk into the two lesser scopes and nothing to show for it.

If the present cheap scope will get you on at 600, keep saving.
 
I don't know what to offer you at under $600 that is 24x or 32x and with clarity, especially a variable power scope like it would be. I would have to say, keep saving. You'll get that Nightforce and not have wasted $600 on a scope.

I appreciate the replies. Y'all are kind of reaffirming what I was thinking. I figured I could have saved enough for the 15-55 NF by mid-year next year. Looks like I'll just push through and order one next summer time frame
 
I was not informed on the 15-55 Competition. Wow.
Were it me, I would "settle" for the 12-42 or even 8-32 BR.
But then I am not a frequent rifle shooter and not real steady. I have a straight 36X for BR50 that should have been a 24.

I will simply say, your emphasis on scopes with such high magnification is, IMHO, misplaced. I shot in 1,000 yard competition for 6 years with scopes with top end magnification of 20x to 24x, and because of mirage, I cannot remember a time when I had the scope set above 18x.

For just a little over $700, you could get a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50, but you're going to be that much closer to the Nightforce price...

The last time I shot 300 Yard F Class the mirage was bad enough that I was under 20X. I love high magnification (Shot Benchrest for years with a straight 36X), but sometimes it's unusable.
 
Awesome guys, I really appreciate al the input, as I'm still learning about shooting FTR. Gives me lots to think about as I'm shooting my next match come Saturday.
 
Well, played around with the adjustments on my scope today and backed it down a bit.

Increased my scores yet again for the third straight match. Had some horrible wind on top of that, so I'm pretty happy with the results from my third ever match.

Just by tweaking the scope a bit, I had a 8.35 point average today. My goal was 8, and to better what I did last month.
 
Check out a series on you tube titled sniper 101. He has many hours of info on long range shooting. The budget scope he recomends is the 10 power SWFA SS or Super Sniper. This scope is approved for use on up to a 50 gun.cal. See the videos and decide for your self.
