Maybe but.....

I can see many who posted and didnt vote for the OP
So hopefully the thread makes people on the high road aware of the contest and like many here they vote for the one they like the best

Not maybe... definitely. OP posts thread, has people voting daily, moves into first place. It's pretty simple really. Justify and rationalize all you want, but the results are skewed because of this thread.

No, not definitely. Is this the first time you've seen a contest like this? You don't think the other contestants are telling friends and family and coworkers to vote for them daily? Perhaps posting the same on another forum, Facebook, or similar? Its up to the voters how they vote. You clearly aren't a fan of the thread, that's fine, point taken. Quite a few of us like his design best.

And none of the other contestants belong to any gun forums and have members of those forums supporting them?

Maybe we should take a poll for this thread on if the thread made you aware of the contest and you voted for the op because it was the best design in your opinion, or whether you voted for him because he influneced you :D. I would find it silly to do but hey, I have a feeling we would find that some people really do like his design and some people get hurt by contestants not breaking the rules of the contest.?

Generally I don't bother with things like this. However, I did find this one interesting with some of the entries along the lines of my taste. I liked Gary's entry and thus have been supporting it. I also like the entries by Chris and Tyler but have leaned towards Gary's entry. I am not supporting Gary's entry simply because he asked for support or because he happens to be a THR member. For my taste there are several entries that show what I see as creativity and some thinking that went into them.

Just My Take....

I didn't just vote for Gary because he's a member here, lets dissect them according to my preferences.

(Edit-However in the interests of Full Disclosure, While I was aware of the vote through Ruger Emails, I wouldn't have given a Rodent's keester about the results if we didn't have a Member involved... I prefer wheelguns over rifles as one shoulder is held on by 3 pins, making rifle use uncomfortable in the extreme)

Rick- Alabama. I can scope any rifle on my own. Nice basics but nothing new to me

Burke- California- Red... Red... Red... Angry color and It strikes me no differently than a Pink gun.

Joe- Nebraska- Nice basic rifle, not big on brass/gold colors though, and I'd rather have a Vintage gun, instead of a Vintage-Looking gun.

Tyler- Washington- Close, I love the wood, but that many accessories make the gun more expensive and targets the upper end of the curve.

Alan-Colorado- Functional, but I don't like sticking things on my gun, and he openly describes the use of a Flashlight mounted on the rifle. Something I'm strongly against for most people unless you're clearing the house as part of a SWAT team.

Kevin- Wisconsin- REEEEEEEED. Ick, ick, ick.

Jeremy- Vermont- I don't like AR pattern guns (or nods in that direction), or Tactical "stuff". That's just personal taste.

William- Missouri- Red.... Flames???? Really? On a 50's hot-rod, sure if well done. but... No... Just ... No.

Chris- Tennessee- Another one I actually Like, but going that way with the multiple fore-ends pushes the price higher, and targets a different market.

And Gary- Michigan- Basic, able to be upgraded, Minimal cost increase with the small accessories, keeping it in the realm of "my first rifle" and competition both.

If Tyler or Chris step forward as THR members, I'd be happy to throw them a single vote just as part of our Family here, but of the ones offered, Gary has the edge in what looks like cost and accessibility to me.

Now if any of these gents had convinced Ruger to "screw up" the bluing process deliberately to deliver a line of pure, dark-Plum guns to match my Blackhawk, I'd be singing a different tune.

One nice benefit of the "one vote per day" rule is that you could throw a vote or two someone else's way as a nod to their design if you want.

I'm happy Gary is winning and I really do like his design best overall out of all finalists. There are some other good designs out there too. I thought the M1 Carbine style rifle in the "best of the rest" bunch was pretty neat also.

Yep, I also voted for Robert in Vermonts M1 carbine in the "Best of the rest". :)

I voted for the cat in Alabama, liked the sporter look.
I appreciate the initiative and frankly am glad you are willing. I agree the sporter did not take much work to design, but it did appeal to me.

Since both of those are the same concept except for blued vs. stainless and low luster finish stock vs. high polish finish stock, I sure think Ruger would like to actually produce one of those for a 50 year anniversary rifle.

Even then, Gary's idea is the one that I'd actually be interested in purchasing whether it is marked as a 50 year model or not. It looks to be the most versatile and ready for knock about field use in any weather.

I'd like one with a compact length barrel, the full length stock, a thread protector, and in .22 WMR. Please.

I have tried yesterday and today to look at the link the OP posted and all I get is a page with a bunch of blank squares on it and little X's in the corners. Same thing when I went to the ruger site.

Try right clicking on one of the squares and see if you don't see an option to "Download Pictures". How images on web sites are viewed is a function of the browser settings.

I was semi-aware of the contest before this thread but didn’t bother voting until I read this thread. I looked at each entry and ended up voting for Gary.

I liked the combo takedown models but the bull barrels on both have no way to remove a scope with the barrel. I could see maintaining zero being an issue with that. You’d have to remove the scope via quick release rings unless you used the scope with both barrels, which kind of defeats the purpose of the lighter weight barrel.

Gary, does that stock also have adjustable length of pull?
