Where does a gun owner go to escape the cold and keep shooting.

My CZ felt like a block of ice in my hands.
Another reason to switch to a Glock! Plastic does not conduct cold like metal frames do. ;)

(No outdoor shooting for me today, even with my Glocks. Its 38° and raining in the Rocket City.)

We have temperatures around 30 with wind chill of 8 degrees in Memphis today. Not too mention the ice storm we've been under since Friday. (Arkansas got hot much worse.)

On Tuesday, it was about 58 degrees and sunny. I was putting up Christmas stuff in the yard wearing shorts and a golf shirt.

Not doing any shooting today. Usually, I am good with just dressing for the weather and going out to the range. When the temperature gets below the mid-40s, I just don't find it to be enjoyable so I stay home. There is the option of indoor ranges but I'd rather just wait a week for the weather to break and go to my usual range and have fun.

My parents used to go to Winterhaven Fl. for the winter. I visted them once there in their 55 and over community and it seemed ok. Was wondering about the Tampa area as I need to also be reasonably close to a VA facility.

Yes I can deal with a shorter rifle range but Trap and Skeet is a must as these are the activities that consume most of my range time these days.

Come down to AZ and thaw your bones. The desert is a nice 55 degrees, nothing an extra pair of socks and a hat won't fix and we have all the space in the world.

55? that's shorts and T shirt weather. :)
I tend to shoot my airguns more in the winter. I have a 10M range in my man cave. But if it's sunny and low wind, I shoot outside, temps don't really matter. I used to ride my motorcycle using the same rules, dry roads, MC, I once past a state trooper on the interstate doing 90 when it was 15* out, and she just gave me a "oh yeah, your crazy" look

I prefer the cold/ wind and snow.
There are a few guns I prefer to keep dry, so I limit myself to not using those in the snow

Then look at Gainesville, FL - Big VA and UF/Shands hospitals, Gator trap and skeet with one of the few Bunker set ups in the country. Close by is Bradford Sportsman's Farm with Spotrting Clays, rifle and pistol ranges (including a 850 yard rifle range)

SW Florida anywhere near Sarasota-Bradenton has everything you want. You might have to visit several places to get every shooting sport. Our winter is your summer for temperature and dry weather. Florida has lots of gun stores, gun shows every month somewhere close by, Good fishing and if you are up to it, private hunting preserves. You can camp at the KOA or State Parks for a low fee and even collect your home-state's unemployment checks while you are here.

I just spent 2 hours at the range today. Thermometer said it was -5 F and wind chill -20 F. Nothing terribly unpleasant about it. I just took a break every 10 minutes or so to warm my hands up. The cold doesn't keep me indoors until it gets down below -30 F, I can stand frozen nose hairs but when the weight of the icicles on them starts pulling them out, I call it a day.

Was actually nice today, didn't have to battle any mirage and I had the range to myself.

I have the opposite problem. It's never cold enough to not shoot around here but it does get hot enough in the summer to regret a trip to the range!

There is a portable benchrest in my den with a pellet trap 10 meters away in the storage room. The 17, 20, and 22 caliber pump up pellet rifles made by Benjiman, Sheridan, and Crosman are used all winter long. For a change at times spring powered Beeman R-1 17 Cal, and RS 1000 22 Cal rifles are used. I can shoot with rifles that have open , peep, or scopes with AO that adjust down to 10 meters. At times I do target shoot RF and CF firearms outdoors but when the wind is not blowing and the temp is above 32.

The Mason Dixon Fal Shooters group has a "Frozen Nutz" shoot in late January or early February for more than 10 years now in Central City PA at about 2500 ft elevation. Usually it is a day of horizontal snow and frozen beer. Once in awhile you have visibility over 100 feet. We look forward to it every year.

Vern Humphrey: In May '80 at AF Survival School we were in the hills about forty miles from Fairchild AFB, Spokane WA.

The instructor told us that a class during a (then) recent winter lost a guy who went to sleep wearing some wet clothes in his sleeping bag. Whether dry clothes had been avail., no idea.
I can believe it -- a common mistake is to wear too much clothing while doing something strenuous, then relaxing in sweat-soaked clothes. That can be a fatal error.

My motto is "pack cold, sit warm." When hunting, I carry a towel, spare shirt, down vest, waffle weave underwear and Gore-Tex parka, along with extra socks and watch caps. When I get to my stand, the wet clothing comes off, I towel myself dry, and all that goes into a plastic bag. Then I dress warm and take my stand.

I'm out in phoenix az and it has been very cold "well if your from here any way as its normally 110' " particularly since I got caught with out winter gear my suggestion is Nerf or nothing. Or well something else you can shoot inside

FL especially from Orlando south is great in the winter, but as far as I'm concerned is undesireable in the summer months.

I lived in the Florida Keys. Problem being, is it is a misdemeanor to discharge a firearm in Monroe County. (encompasses entire Keys) Obviously the range by Big Pine is exempt. I can see they want this due to all the tourists, however I've trekked through thick brush on foot into certain areas that haven't been traveled on foot in over 50 years I'm guessing due to the difficulty of getting there and nothing being there. And I knew where homeless would camp, and uninhabited islands home to them that was nowhere near as hard to get to.

Indoors.

Plenty of ranges available.

May limit what gun can be shot.

Still can shoot.

Cold just adds challenge. Get some arctic overalls with lots of insulation. Get some chemical hand warmers. Some coffee in a thermo. Different kind of fun. There are no indoors rifle ranges in Finland so getting accustomed is a must.

I am in FL, but there is a lack of shooting facilities in South Fl, other than those 25 yard smoke filled Gun store ranges. I know there is a million dollar outdoor facility in Indian River that was put up about 5 yrs ago, 3 or 400 yard rifle range and even a fishing hole for the kids. But the one time I drive a hour to get there, there was at least a 1 hour wait. I don't have patience for waiting an hour.
Anyone know of a any folks with private property near Vero, please let me know.
Down South of me there is little. Property got to darn expensive.

TX is moving in Inferno mode again - come on down. Watch the heat exhaustion at the matches and the range. See folks turn bright red, not sweat and get to ride in the funny truck with flashing lights!!

I've avoided a couple of neat training possibilities in August as at my age - don't want to go bye bye.
