Where does a gun owner go to escape the cold and keep shooting.

There are a handfull indoor ranges within 30-45 minutes of me. Although only one allows cast bullets, has a rifle range (altough kinda short), doesnt treat everyone like children, and has fair prices. So I only go to that one regularly.

Also, I am curious what you mean by cold. Your info says you are from the desert. It is -12 actual with a -35 windchill here. Not trying to be a dick. I find it interesting how peoples perceptions of weather can differ so greatly.

Have an uncle that lives in Louisiana try to tell me how cold it is in Feb when it rains and such---------rain?!?!?----really?

Sorry but you have no idea what real cold is.

As of a couple of days ago, Arkansas is a bad choice. It was 72* on Wednesday, 39* on Thursday, and iced over by Friday morning. Today's high is supposed to be 28* in Little Rock.

It gets pretty chilly here in Detroit, so I migrate to the indoor pistol ranges for the winter. I'm a sissy when it comes to the cold, so that happens when it hits 55 or so outside :D

For many this may not be their cup of tea, but one can practice in their own home or apartment using a quality air rifle or pistol and inexpensive .177 pellets. No smoke or noise, no danger for neighbors, and setting up a temporary range with a portable bullet/pellet trap is easy.

I would too... :D

But if it's winter and the weather consists of cold, snow, ice, and high winds (such as we are seeing across the country today :banghead:) doing something indoors has charms.

I've experienced the same thing. I'm from WV but live in MS for school. These southerners don't know cold! If it gets below 60 I see people wearing winter coats! If it flurries, the whole town shuts down!

Personally, I just avoid shooting when its too cold. Shooting should be enjoyable, and if I have to fight biting winds and cold, wet weather, I'm not having fun.

Not here, (Central MT) for sure. It is currently -31* F with no wind chill.

My former home (Eureka, CA) had decent temps year round. It does get a bit cool, but the biggest problem there is moisture. I had no problem shooting outdoors pretty much year round, as long as I took measures to keep everything dry.

I'm from VT. I thought it was normal to dig through 4" of crusty snow with frozen fingers to pick up brass. I'm lucky, I can step out side and shoot. 10-15 min. and warm up with a glass and ice after.

I pretty much manage to shoot outside all year, but yesterday, when the high reached a balmy 26 degrees, I went to an indoor range. It costs a little more, and I shoot less, but I think I might get more out of it.

I use to enjoy dressing warm and shooting in the ice and snow.

But it's true that as you grow older the heat and cold begins to bother you.

I don't like shooting at indoor ranges.

I have a couple ranges on my property, one in the back yard.
So when the weather gets too hot or cold, like it is now, I'll shoot a little, then go in the shop and reload, work on guns or watch TV.
Then shoot some more.

This is very true where I am (Huntsville Al).

Im glad I'm not used to the cold. A buddy of mine moved to Ada Ohio and could not believe the amount of snow that "these people" have, and that everything stayed open too!

I went earlier this week, 27 out, I dress warm and was fine but my trigger finger went numb after 20-30 min. I have gloves but have never found a pair that gives me a good feel of the trigger so I don't use it on my trigger hand.
I to am old and hate the cold.

We're having a cold snap in western Washington state. Which means we're hitting the twenties at night.

The outdoor MRC pistol range, were I belong, has a wood stove. I fired it up and spent Friday morning working out some of my .357 reloads. The cold is an excuse to have the usual geezers stay home. No offense intended from a semi-geezer.

I feel for the shooters in really cold states, but the only time I don't go is in the driving rain. It ruins my paper targets. I suppose I could just shoot my plasticized dirty bird targets and be good to go.

I have an idea for that old "Love is" comic strip: a non-standard work schedule and four .357 magnums!

I just dress up and go outdoors. Indoor ranges suck. Plus, cold weather means less crowds at the range. :D

Infact I'm going up to PA to shoot tomorrow. Supposed to be snowing. But I don't care, I'll finally get to try out the 1860 Colt Army I got my dad for his B-day. Should be fun.
