I want to cut a 22/45 bull barrel as short as possible to use with my suppressor. Has anyone ever cut one down to 1"? 2"? Im not really concerned about the loss of accuracy, as this will simply be a plinker, but I want it to run reliably.

I'd bet that nobody will respond that they've actually cut a Mark III 22/45 barrel down to 2", but I'm sure the cycling reliability wouldn't be affected. A 1" barrel should work just as well on a blow-back action as a 20" barrel.

I run a suppressor on my 22/45, but mine came threaded from the factory.

Local smith just showed me one that he had cut to about 4in. Plus, used the cut barrel to make the thread protector which made it look really nice. IIRC he said that was as short as he was able to cut it down on his machinery. Don't see it impacting functioning. If you want to keep sights on it as it get shorter your sight radius goes away quickly.

Im wondering if its possible to cut it at the receiver junction. That would leave about 1 1/4" of barrel inside the receiver. The front sight could be mounted on top of the receiver, or an optic could be used instead of sights. The suppressor would appear to be the barrel. Any thoughts why this would be a bad idea? Baffle strikes because the bullet wouldnt be stable enough out of a 1" barrel?

If you want it to be that short you would probably be better off going with a integrally suppressed version. IMHO
