As we start finding out about the Olympic events where shooting is a factor, please post here when it will be covered/aired so that we don't miss it.

Go to nbcolympics.com, click on "TV Listings" at the top, and enter the requested info to find the coverage schedule offered in your area.

Personally, I'm not a fan of NBC or it's affiliates but what are you going to do? The sports outweigh the broadcaster.

ETA: I think they also have additional sports coverage online.

Watching the biathlon now on NBC.. man those guys can SHOOT!

4.8" standing at 50 yards after busting your butt all-out on skis for a considerable distance... impressive.

Many would have a hard time doing that when it's calm, sunny, 70F, with a resting heart rate. :)

That 10k biathlon is on NBC right now. Remember they show everything delayed. Unless you would like to watch in the middle of the night that's just the way it is. It's easy to see who won by looking it up on the net. Tim Burke was supposed to be among the favorites in the event which would have made him the first American to ever win a medal. But he couldn't pull it off. He finished 19th.

They are gorgeous rifles though. I had one similar as a kid when I competed up north. Not a lot of opportunity to Biathlon down here in Texas. I don't think the nordic track under air conditioning with my 400 rifle would count.

Was a bit disappointed that being in Russia, where they are trying to out-big, out-difficult other Olympics, they didn't decide to use AK-47's instead of 22's. I mean, where are they finding the ammunition?

I used to deer hunt on cross country skis. I had a set of skis that were technically too short for me for proper use.

Ole Einar Bjoerndalen has dominated biathlon competition for the last three Olympics and world championship racing as well......not that he has won every medal but he has continued as a force to be reckoned with year after year. Seven Olympic golds.
A marvelous athlete at 40.
And the rifle....my retirement present to myself:

Nice one pete. I am envious. That is a really nice choice you made. If you are like me, you will keep it the rest of your life.

I still have my competition rifle I bought back when I was 15.

They used to use medium bores in biathlon. 6.5x55 seemed to be the ticket.

You don't have to watch in the middle of the night to see some things live. The women's 7.5K biathlon live stream started this morning at 9:30 EST. I caught the last half live streaming on NBC's website.

Loving it

I love to watch true athletes, and the Biathalon is one sport that shows off the martial spirit of the games.

The Olympics were founded on the ability to fight and win ,and now its mostly about foo foo stuff that I will not watch.

I saw the "old man" win the first round and I was SO pleased.

I am curious, since a few here own them = what does one of those rifles cost.

And do they shoot long rifle or short ammo ?.

Thanks for the answers.

Last time I looked a decent starter Anschutz was at $3500 and it was 22LR.

I did not think it was that unreasonable. Go hit there website and see what you think.

If should be no problem to find match grade 22 ammo for pre crisis prices. Eely match ammo is all you can find on a lot of websites anyway.

Yeah I noticed that. The Ruskies are having a lot of events at night which translates to early morning here in the US. I saw some live events this morning too. That's not how things have gone in the past in the Olympics with tv coverage. Heck we have had to wait to see some events the next day going back to Lake Placid like the Miracle On Ice for example.

AFAIK there is no shortage of 22LR on this side of the pond, only prices have gone up somewhat.

thinking originaly it was a 12 mi ski with shooting stages at 100, 150, 200 and 250 metres and big bore calibers.

For the rifles: Anschutz is now making a 17hmr plinker with the same Fortner action, the 1727.
(doesn't cary plinker prices though)

The only thing I've noticed so far is a complete lack of good bulk prices. A couple of years ago buying ten or twenty 500rd bricks saved you 10-20% compared to buying a one brick at a time. Then again, biathlon ammo can be found just about everywhere. Using cold-resistant target ammo for plinking isn't a cheap proposition, though...

I've tried not to watch the olympics but they seem to be on tv all the time. Watching cross country skiing is as interesting as watching paint dry but biathlon changes it completely.

I'll wait for the YouTube vids to come up: spending $50 Billion in a Communist country, with a communist TV organization? Won't get my ratings, except for better dead than...
