As the title says I’ve never purchased anything from CTD but I’m considering doing it today and I want to know what your experiences have been.

If it makes a difference I’m buying LaserLyte training kit (fake gun, cartridge and target) for 170.00 plus ( I ass.u.me) shipping

I like CTD. Some people feel CTD should be boycotted because they raised their prices a lot when the ammo shortage hit. To me, if the prices are too high, don't buy. There may be some other political issues with CTD, but frankly I don't really care and you can make your own boycotting decisions.

One thing to watch when you order from them, is they have these little red semi trucks on the order summary page with a number on them. Those represent different warehouses, and if you can order each item from the same warehouse your shipping will be cheaper. Many times, you won't be able to find a common warehouse for everything, but I have saved money when combining things that can be combined (you may see the same item listed on their site and it varies by a few cents, I think this is because they are showing you the price from each warehouse and a closer one may cost less. But you'll save much more using a common warehouse instead of a bunch of different ones because of separate shipping).

This warehouse thing makes a huge difference when buying ammo, as it is each package that pays the hazmat (ORM-D) fees, so if you use one warehouse there will be only one package. Would be even more on primers and powder, but I'm not sure they sell that.

I haven't bought anything from CTD in years. When I did it was a few holsters or a few boxes of ammo, rarely over $100. Their shipping charges can be surprisingly high for even small items, so be sure to check the final price before you commit. I know CTD left a bad taste in many mouths when they suddenly stopped firearm sales in the aftermath of Sandy Hook to "evaluate their sales policy" when it looked they were appeasing gun control advocates.

CTD will never see a dime of my money. They have been known to taake advantage of "panic situations" to an extreme, and various people have complained about their confusing and rather high priced shipping. Run a search, and you'll see PLENTY of examples why many shooters refuse to do business with them.

Cheaper than dirt was never really that "cheap."
I did buy some ammo from them in the past, but during the panic they were asking almost $100 for an AR-15 30 round magazine. Some call that capitalism. Good for them. But I'll never buy anything from CTD again.

I used to buy from them but I gave it up when I found that their low prices didn't actually result in a lower overall "checkout" total. I ended up consistently paying more for their merchandise than I could have paid elsewhere by the time they were done adding in their various fees/charges, splitting orders and shipping them separately with separate shipping charges, etc.

Maybe they're better now but I wouldn't know. It took me awhile to learn my lesson, but now I don't even look at their catalogs or browse their website.

Just got 5 Walther PPS magazines from them. At $30, they were the cheapest I could find. Shipping was around $10. The key seems to be ordering everything from the same "warehouse". I had no issues.

They no longer qualify as "cheaper than dirt" anymore. Used to be exactly that. I haven't purchased from them in about 10 years.

I posted this a few months back, but I think it might help:

Cheaper Than Dirt! said:
We are now offering products from a number of warehouses on our website. Each warehouse is a separate company not under the control of Cheaper Than Dirt!. This allows each warehouse to set their own prices, including shipping. Each company competes with the other on many of the same products, and manages their inventory and prices. Each has their own agreement with their shipping company. We hope to have a better system in the future that will allow lower shipping costs, but at this point it is still in discussion.

From their FAQ: https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/faqs.aspx

Question: Why do some items appear more than once and have different prices and part numbers?
Answer: Our goal is to save you time and money by comparing prices for you. An item may be available from multiple warehouse partners that individually price and maintain their products. You can select the warehouse that offers the product at the price you are willing to pay. To lower your shipping costs, please select products from the same warehouse.
Based on that information, it's hard to say what will happen since apparently each warehouse is a different company.

In my opinion it seemed that CTD did take advantage when the shortage happened and I vowed then that I would never purchase anything from them. I know of at least one on-line site and one LGS that didn't "go for the gold" and that's where I make my purchases. We have a "Consumer Voice and it should be displayed when we think a business steps over the line specially when we know other businesses that haven't and won't do it.

Cheaper Than Dirt is a reliable company.

suemarkp I like CTD. Some people feel CTD should be boycotted because they raised their prices a lot when the ammo shortage hit. To me, if the prices are too high, don't buy.
+1
CTD doesn't make a penny on stuff that doesn't sell. Anyone who bought their Pmags at $59 or brick of Rem .22 at $99 has only themselves to blame.

Davek1977 .....They have been known to taake advantage of "panic situations" to an extreme...
On the contrary, CTD isn't making a penny of profit if no one buys their products at panic prices...............but for those that REALLY NEED a box of ammo NOW..........CTD will have it. Often some will say "But, but, but Store X that I always go to never raised their prices during the Great Ammo Panic" .....uh huh......how much do they have in stock TODAY? None? That's a good price though!

I just bought 2,000 rounds of Tula 9mm from CTD at $9.19 a box......that's $3.00 a box cheaper than WalMart. Yet CTD is gouging?:scrutiny:

I bought a couple of mags from them, but it was almost 10 years ago. They wouldn't be my first choice on anything today, but that's because there are at least a couple of other reputable dealers for the same stuff I can get at CTD.

I've never used em because somebody else always has what I'm looking for at a cheaper price. In my opinion someone has seriously over valued the price of dirt.

Even if they really were the cheapest (which they hardly ever are) I would not give them one cent of my money.

TM, CTD is a hot button issue for many people. They did raise their prices through the roof during the last panic, but people were willing to pay so whose fault is it really? Either way we have dozens of threads on CTD that you can browse if you like.
