I've been needing an AR forever. But haven't been able to spend the money.
I had a Daniel Defense picked out for an all around AR. However I can get a heck of a deal on a Remington.

What are the big differences between the two? Are the Rems good? They are made by Bushmaster correct?

I see the Rem has a match trigger... Not sure any more... Help?

The Remington's are (last I checked) assembled in NY from Bushmaster and / or DPMS parts. Differences vs a DD:

- DD has individual HPT / MPI bolts and bbls. BM batch tests, DPMS doesn't test.
- DD cold hammer forges their bbls in house. BM & DPMS are conventionally rifled.
- DD bbl is hard chrome lined, R15 bbl is not lined.
- DD bbl is 1:7 twist, R15 bbl is 1:9 twist.
- DD knows how to cut a 5.56 NATO chamber, but BM & DPMS frequently suffer from tight chambers.
- DD has proper assembly procedures like staked castle nut, staked carrier key bolts. This has never been a strong suit from BM & DPMS.
- DD uses Mil-B-11595E 4150 bbl steel, BM uses 4150, DPMS uses 4140.
- DD uses a mil diameter and mil spec receiver extension (buffer tube), while Rem uses a commercial spec and diameter extension.

So, how good of a deal on the R-15? Which R-15 model is it? Do you want a Camo AR anyway?

If spending less than the asking price of a DD for a good quality AR is the question you mean to ask, there are plenty of brands and options between that would likely best the price of the Remington with better quality to boot. That would be the subject I'd inquire about if the DD was a tad beyond my desired budget. Just a thought.

Bottom line just get the DD's and don't look back?

I have an R-15 and it's my #1 varmint rifle. A tack driver with Hornady 55gr VMax. Has done everything I have asked it to do. I did have to put a 3lb Timney trigger in it however.
But my defense AR is a BCM.

No, the Remington rifles aren't made by Bushmaster really. Remington (freedom group) bought Bushmaster and closed the Bushmaster plant (in Windham, ME). If you want something that resembles what most people consider a Bushmaster you want to buy a Windham Weaponry AR. They are made by the people that freedom group laid off when they closed the doors on bushmaster. Made in the same formerly closed down factory that produced Bushmaster.

That being said, get the DD. No comparison.

If your looking at buying the Remington, you may as well just buy a DPMS. Same quality at only $650. I currently have a BCM, I have also had very good luck with PSA and Delton in the past.
