Local shop is mostly out of AR's and has some Rem. VTR 15's.

They're "optic ready" -- which means "no sights" and you need to buy a scope.

Also, Remington sells them with a std. 5 rd. mag -- "legal for hunting in most states." That sounds like PR. Remington notes that the "std. AR mag" works in the gun.

Cammo, telescoping stock, floated bbl.

How to they rate compared to Bushmaster for instance?

What about the Sig 55x series? That's the other gun he has stocked.

I didn't check on his availability of AR mags.

Not sure where you live but it is the same story here. The camo Remington's seem to be about the only AR's left. I was looking for a 308 and they basically told me, maybe next summer. The gun store owner I spoke to tonight about the Remington said that it is a Bushmaster, because Remington bought Bushmaster.

Cerberus Capital owns (amongst many other non-gun holdings) Remington, Bushmaster, DPMS, Cobb Mfg, and Marlin / H&R / NEF. The Remington R15s are Bushmaster parts assembled at Remington's Ilion, NY plant. With current supply conditions the R15s are a fairly good buy if you want an AR and don't mind the camo finish.

There's a Bushy sitting in the rack -- buttstock, long barrel, standard forend, just like Stoner designed it.

I'm having a huge argument with myself. I'm not particularly fond of the .223 Rem. and the AR format only vaguely snaps my sox.

But, when/if they get banned [again], then I'm gonna seriously want one.

:banghead:

7.62, I was kind of like you until I bought my Bushmaster AR. I wasn't sold on the AR and I wasn't a huge fan of .223. That has all changed.

Shooting the AR is pure enjoyment. Low recoil, light, and accurate. A gun that can be used for varmints, plinking or self-defense. While ballistic information and opinion seems to vary widely on the .223, just shooting it you can tell it is a potent little round.

Buy an AR-15 and don't look back. You will fall in love with it. The 5.56 is THE definitive military round for a reason, and the AR is a sweet platform for it.

I've owned three of them, Colt and two Bushmasters. Last one was a floated bbl. flattop w/ a Redfield scope.

Sold all of them.

I just can't warm up to .223 Rem.
