tc encore with 27" mgm heavy factory barrel with 1in8" twist, for the 22-250 ai!!!!!

or go with the savage m12.

If you want a shooter, a heavy-barreled Savage would be my recommendation. You have the option of swapping barrels easily later, and in .22-250, that is a good thing.

mine is a Stevens 200(its made by savage) cost me $400, then another $120 for a Redfield revenge 2-7x32, I love it, simple it works, basically a model 10 without the accutriger. um not really a fan of the axis myself, shot one in 30-06. and I got a special dislike for Remington. around hear you can get into a cz, howa, tikka, for about $550-$650. also look at a mossberg atr, barrel and reciever is made by howa.and I love mine( mossberg MVPvarmint)

Regardless of which rifle you get, get better glass. It really does make a difference.

I would get one of the 700 Dick's specials. They put them on sale for about 400 bucks after rebates.
I thought the same thing a couple of Christmases ago. Bought one in .308 with the varmint barrel for under $400 after rebates to use as a cheap long-range rifle.

The stock flexed too much to use a bipod. Add $200.

The trigger was lawyered-up to be unbelieveably bad. Changed to a Jewell. Add $200.

The included scope was marginal for 100 yards, useless for 200+. Add $400.

Now it shoots like a $1200 rifle. And it's HEAVY.

I own 4 .22-250s. Ruger 77V, Ruger 77VT Mk II, Tikka T-3 Lite in stainless, and a custom Remington 700. The Rugers are great bench guns, the Tikka is a great walking gun, and the Remington is the most accurate (for roughly the combined cost of the other three).

I have taken hundreds of ground squirrels with the two Rugers, many in excess of 300 yards. I bought the Tikka for a walkaround coyote gun, and if I were doing it over would have gotten it in .223. I've since displaced it with a CZ in .223 - fantastic little gun. The Tikka will reach out there with the rest of the -250s, but if shooting from a bench it's nicer with the heavier guns. The Remington was built by my father-in-law, and has a very, very light trigger. Truly a bench gun, but it will shoot 5 shots in a ragged hole at 100 yards if I do my part.

When I started shooting varmint, I picked up a used Mark X sporter with a Western Field 6x fixed scope for $125. The previous owner couldn't get it to group. I opened up the barrel channel and bedded the action, and it went from 2.5 MOA to under 1 MOA with Federal 55gr factory ammo. I learned more about ranging and trajectory with that rifle than any other - and shot a lot of squirrels with it. Lost it in a burglary.

If I had it to do over, I'd go .223. At 300 yards, the .223 kills 'em just as dead with longer barrel life and less noise. I haven't shot a varmint with a .22-250 since I got my CZ in .223.

Faced with a similar decision my shooting buddy and I both bought Savage MD12 VBSS in 22/250. Nice guns and exceptionally accurate. It convinced me that years of buying Rem 700's (just because) was stupid and I should have been more open to alternatives.

Hammered down on this Ruger Hawkeye 77 RFP 22-250 rem New in Box on GB today. Isn't that nice? LOL
I'll be sticking a Bushnell 734120 Trophy 4-12x 40mm on top.
I'd like to thank everyone for the input. I fell for the SS and I like my Rugers.

It's here:
Ruger M77 Hawkeye All Weather 22-250
Mueller Optics 4.5-14x40mm AO APV Scope

All I have to do is sight it in. I'll give a report when I get it out on the range.

sav model 12 or rem 700. whichever is more available to you (in price range also) trust me i just went through with this. you will not be disappointed unless rifling ratio is of utmost importance.

After sighting in and cooling down. Tight 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds 50 gr Remington Premier AccuTip. Very satisfied with my choice.

Rugers usually shoot better after a couple hundred rounds. That's a fine rifle with sub moa potential. Congrats!
