I have a couple pistols in 7.62x25. I want to reload for them, mostly because the ammo is nearly impossible to find. What bullets does everyone use? Where is a good source for them? I plink with this round so the cheaper, the better. Thanks.

I have loaded them with the Hornady 90 grain HP XTP bullets (which Hornady shows as a .309 diameter) and I have also used Sierra 90 grain JHC bullets (which are a .312 diameter). I was using Starline brass which was easy to get years ago but seems scarce now. You can also cut down .223 Remington brass and make your own 7.62 X 25 brass. I believe a few members here have taken that route. Always work from good published load data. I was loading for a Czech CZ52 pistol back then. The .312 diameter Sierra bullets worked best for me as I recall.

I also have used the .309 XTP 90 Grain bullets. I have also used Speer 100 Grain Plinkers. The 90 XTPs are OK in my M-57 but not world beaters. I have had best luck with Alliant's Power Pistol. I have also used Blue Dot which is harder to get in the case.I started using Privi Partisen brass from factory ammo and then got 500 Starline brass before the crunch hit after Sandy Hook. My worst problem was getting the seating die adjusted so it didn't collapse the case when seating and crimping in the same operation. I tried it in 2 operations but finally got the knack of it.It is not my favorite caliber to reload but once I caught on it has been OK

When I had my CZ-52, I had S&B brass that I had once fired, and reloaded with Unique powder using the 100gr Speer Plinkers. They actually shot good, but I always lost brass out plinking, because those CZ-52's really tossed the empties.

Finding the Tokarev brass is the hardest part for me.

I can find less than 20% of my 7.62x25mm brass if I am out shooting by myself - the M57 and the CZ52 both consistently throw the ejected cases into the next county.

What is your source for the bullets? It seems like the .30 carbine bullets are all out of stock or discontinued. Thanks.

Not to hijack the thread but have any of you tried hard cast like MBC in the 762x25? I have been considering giving it a try but am hesitant because of the velocities of the 762x25 in general.

If you can't find bullets or brass for the 7.62x25, you can always shoot 7.63 Mauser ammo. The Mauser ammo isn't as powerful as the Tokarev. That's what I'm shooting right now in mine. Hope this helps you shoot.

Last week I ordered 30 carbine plated from Xtreme, they have yet to arrive. I tried some 32 H&R flat point cast because the bore on my Tokarev measures in at .312 but have had some feeding problems due to the flat point.

Putting aside the feeding problem,I am wondering how they shot? Did it cycle the action? What powder did you use?I an considering using the 115 grain. 309 RN bullets made for the 30 caliber carbine. This is uncharted territory so I am on my own.I am just trying to get feel for what I am facing.:)

With the 100 grain 32 H&R bullet I was getting leading in the last half of the barrel, starting with 4.5 grains of 700X and working up to 5.5 grains which was averaging around 1360 fps. Accuracy was best at 5.5 but not acceptable. All charges cycled the action but 4.5 was real weak. I'm glad I only had 70 of these H&R cast bullets to play with as they have been very frustrating. I'm hoping that the plated 30 carbine bullets will grab enough rifling to work in the Tokarevs .312 bore and my CZ52's .309 bore. I don't expect match grade performance out of these but we would like to hit close to where we aim!
