Guys, I have owned a bunch of these little guys over the years. It has always perplexed me as to why S&W has never offered their little J frames with 6 rounds, or tried to offer a small "Bulldog" type 5 rounds .45 ACP or .44 Spcl.

I don't want a Charter Arms-period.

S&W has no problem putting a big ass 8 shot cylinder in a huge frame gun.

I just would like to S&W think outside the box a bit.

Would also love to see Ruger with LCR in .32 H&R or .327 Mag better still. Oh, yeah Ruger how about a Bulldog as well.

There simply isn't room for a bigger cylinder holding more rounds in a J-Frame.

They started out in 1896 as .32, with the I-Frame, then the cylinder window was lengthened to .38Spl. in 1950.

If they made the frame window big enough for a 6 or 7 shot .38/.357 cylinder?

It would be a K or L Frame.

Okay, you don't want a Charter,,,

Okay, you don't want a Charter,,,
How about a Taurus?

Goto: www.taurususa.com and then search for .44 magnum,,,
They have 4 snubbies listed.

I wouldn't want to fire a magnum load out of one,,,
but I'll bet the .44 Special isn't any worse than my Charter Bulldog.

Night-Guard?....

Did you see the S&W Night-Guard line?
Those snubs were not J frames but they did come in 10mm/.40, .44spl/.44magnum, .357magnum, etc.

A LCR or 396 type snub in .44spl would be nice but Smith and Wesson tried it in the early 2000s & no one really cared.

The Ruger SRH Alaskan is offered in 44mag and 454casull, both are 6 shot. Look into these hand cannons.

Slick....

1st; sad day, :( It looks like Smith & Wesson cut all the Night Guard DA snubs. That's rough but if they want more employees & time for M&Ps or SDs then I can understand it.
The classic L, K & N frame wheel guns may soon be fond memories. :(

2nd; Gemini Customs, www.GeminiCustoms.com they highly rated gunsmiths, do a great custom job on Super Redhawks & GPs. They reduce the revolver barrel, hone the action, fit new sights, offer ports.

If you have the time & $$$, it's a sweet DA/DAO wheel gun.

Smith & Wesson did design and produce prototypes of a C-frame, that was smaller then a K and larger then a J-frame, and incorporated a 6-shot/.38 Special cylinder. A snubby that resulted was numbered the Model 73. But they shortly dropped it and discontinued production. Today these are rare (and very valuable) birds.

There’s a few versions that I would like to see, especially a topbreak in 38/357, but since I have an aversion to internal locks and transfer bars, it’s a moot point.

I'd love a modern DA snubbie in .45 Colt. I have a current Charter Bulldog and you're missing out on a nice gun. It's as least as nice as a Ruger, and has a lifetime warranty. The company is now run by the son of one of the original founders.

Wow, old fluff, that C model sounds exactly what I was thinkin' I had no idea. Guys, thanks for the wisdom and insight.

It was supposed to be an answer to Colt's D-frame line, but they decided that with their 6-shot/K-frame and 5-shot J-frame (in .38 caliber) the additional C-frame wouldn't generate enough sales to make it worthwhile. This however was before Colt dropped out of the picture.

Now who knows?

I've had both the AirLite Ti 296 and 696 for 11.5yr. They both use the HKS #CA44 speedloader, indicating that the L-frame's cylinder chamber spacing is the same as a Charter Arms Bulldog.

Now, S&W did advertise the below firearm for quite a while before finally making it - my 632 Pro below:

It was gone within the year - along with the Night Guard series. Neither the hammerless version I have or it's predecessors, both the 3" black and SS finished hammered and comped versions, have been available new for a while - and they weren't PC Shop guns. Mine was $648 OTD 9/11. It is a J-frame 6-shooter in .327 Magnum, however. Besides the .327 Magnum and .32 S&WL shown, it will also chamber and fire .32 ACP, .32 S&W, and .32 H&RM. Oddly, it was a modern S&W revolver made without the IL, too. Mine sports the '60 Pro' style grips from S&W. It is a bit of a handful with the 115gr Gold Dots in .327 Magnum - which reportedly make nearly 1400 fps - and those grips. I don't find the Tritium Night Sight very effective in anything but total darkness - YMMV.

I would also like to see J-frames in .327.

Also a 7-shot .22 magnum Ruger LCR.

More 3" J-frames.

And an updated Colt D-frame 3rd issue rated for unlimited +P.

The 696 was just about perfect IF you have a rig that will allow reasonably comfortable carry all day. I have been carrying a 696 for about 17 years and it's a powerful accurate revolver. And you can shoot it all day without beating your wrists up with moderately heavy loads. Handload for it and it will amaze you. I wish S&W would produce 5 round L frame .41 magnum with the old style solid barrel and a nice thick forcing cone. A .41 in an L frame would leave more steel around the chambers and barrel. More weight would give less recoil.

My only complaint to the magnums is the defaning noise in a quiet house and the gigantic muzzle flash! The .357 is ear splitting and the flash is blinding!
The .38 and the .44 Special make less flash. Nothing more can be done for an unsupressed revolver,

A nice option for the Model 36 would be an option of a bobbed hammer from the factory. Maybe a heavier hammer for positive ignition! My bobbed 36 has never failed to bust a cap.

Nobody says you have to shoot magnums inside a quiet house. I load my Security Six that pulls bedside duty with .38+p not nearly as "deafening."

Every cartridge has tradeoffs. The tradeoff for magnum ammo is that yeah, it'll be loud, especially with a shorter barrel. Out of my 16" Rossi carbine, the .357mag isn't all that noisy. It's nothing to complain about. It's just how it is and if you choose to use that particular ammo, you need to except that drawback.

Eight shot LCR in .22 Mag - they have an 8 shot .22LR, is the .22Mag that much more powerful?

LCRx in .327 would be the bee's knees - 5 or 6 shot, I wouldn't care.

This.

I;d also love to see an LCRish revolver in medium sized frame with 3" bbl. Same materials and set up, but scaled up. If they could do an L frame sized LCR with 3"bbl in .44spl with XS big dot sight, even cooler.

I would sure like to see S&W make a small .44spl.

I'm a big fan of a big, heavy bullet.

Although the OP stated that he didn't want a Charter Arms product, I will just say that I have a current production Charter Bulldog snubbie in .44spl, and it is about the best thing since sliced bread, in my humble opinion, of course.
