Who here shoots/owns big bore snubbies? I'm interested more in the 5-shot models, like the S&W 296 and the various offerings from Taurus than the shorty N-Frames, but those are cool too.

Taurus was even making a 2" snubbie in .45ACP, but according to their website, they've discontinued it. :(

So let's see some pictures and descriptions. What kind of holster do you carry your bulldog in?

Howabout a Taurus 455?

Hi Y'all,

I got the "bug" for a Bulldog a few years ago. And I went looking
for a .44 Special. I ran across a Taurus mod.455. It's a 5-shot
.45LC with a 2 in. brrl. It was slightly used and $250. I didn't even blink.
I grabbed it. Luckily the same shop had a new Galco mod. SM112,
a high-ride pancake holster that just fits it.

The 455 is ported, so there's a buncha blast. Blinding at night.
It carries okay & shoots well. The only problem is the soft-rubber grip
catches at your shirt tail if you wear it out. Not too bad w/ a jacket
though.

I'd just as soon carry my Ruger SP101, .357mag. It's lighter & rides
real easy. I carry the 455 once in awhile.
But, I mostly have the 455 in a little Handi-safe on the bookshelf
beside my computer desk, loaded w/ 5 Win. Silver-tips.
Comforting, yup.

I have a 4" 455 and the 2" in stainless is still available from CDNN who bought up the Taurus close-outs. You can read about my experiance with it in this thread.

Since I've cleaned it out it's worked pretty well but it's so light I have trouble shooting it consistantly. It's fun and challenging to work on my techinque though and it should help my shooting with my other revolvers.

My 3" Bulldog .44 rides in a Bianchi 5BHL.

My 2.125" SP101 .357 rides in a Haugen Handgun Leather Horsehide Defender. :)

I have a Taurus 445, .44Spl. It is blue steel, 2"bbl, non-ported. I haven't shot it much (yet), but it has been a delight when I have. Since I got it as a woods gun, the first holster will be an Uncle Mike's belt holster, size "0". I'd also like a paddle holster, RH, with thumbstrap.

Hopefully, Taurus will produce more when the current inventory is sold out.

NOTE: The HKS CA44 speedloader will work with the 445.

I bought two 'Old World Leather' #33473 owb black leather (made in Italy...) holsters from Michael's of Oregon a year or two back - probably a closeout. They fit my K-frame 2" 10 and 3" 65 quite well, as well as my big bore L-frame .44 Specials, a 2.5" Airweight 296 and 3" 696, both of which were my two best buys thus far.

Even new S&W's need some cleaning and lubrication. My 296 had a few boxes of Blazers through it when I finally got it's sideplate off to find it dry as a bone. It improved drastically with just a flooding blast of RemOil and a few very small drops of Kleenbore gun oil. Dry the guts of the flooding cleaner before lightly oiling... you want lubrication; it isn't hydraulically powered!

John Ross, that looks like the .500 Magnum snubbie that I don't want to be anywhere close to, when firing pin meets cap. If I want that kind of flame and blast I'll just pour lots of blackpowder down my flintlock.

Come to think of it, that sounds like a good idea. Off to check my schedule for this weekend.

OBTW, who cut the barrel down?

NC, as soon as you get back home and come for a visit you can shoot my 2" .44 special Taurus 445. It's all steel and unported. You'll probably love it as much as I do. Hells Bellsâ„¢ while you're here you can even shoot your old S&W .41 Magnum. I'm taking real good care of it. :D

Right now CDNN has 5-shot stainless Taurus .45acp snubbies for sale. Ported and non-ported. Taurus has dropped them so grab one while you can.

Bart, it has less blast and concussion to the shooter as there is no comp. I hate comps on big revolvers--3% less recoil and 50% more blast. The gun is the 4" .500 with the comp cut off. Barrel is the original length (3 1/8") so ballistics are identical.

I did the work myself. Guns (I did two) are at S&W having the sight blades refitted to the shortened ramps.

Although I sometimes carry a G23 and on occasion an AMT 380, my main carry gun, 90% of the time, is a Taurus 450. I like the .45 Colt cartridge and the gun is easy to carry in an ankle holster and fairly easy to shoot with practice.
My only problem is I can't find speedloaders for it.
Overall, it's a great carry gun with a good punch.
