ZQ .308 ammo any good?

I bought 3 boxes last week to try out. I was going to go to the range yesterday and I had to cancel. I will post when I do, or keep looking here for updates.

Usually not too bad. I have no idea about this ammo, but Id say if the price is good it probably would be worth the price of one box to find out.

I've been avoiding it because it's ridiculously overpriced, at least their 9 and 556.

They so advertise military loads and claim perfect 100 yard match accuracy....on the 9 mil boxes.

They're often overstocked at the walmarts I see it when everything else is gone.

I figured they tried to get into the game to take advantage of the panic buying and it didn't work

I don't think it's worth it. That's awfully expensive for that ammo. I would try to buy some from a different vendor like Wideners, or AIM etc.

I bought a box awhile back and it was 100% reliable in my PTR-91, and also had much less recoil than domestic .308.

Then I bought 9 more boxes, shot two of them, and at times it wouldn't even cycle twice in a row. I have yet to chronograph this ammo, but it's loaded pretty weak.

The brass is boxer primed and appears to be decent quality though. If you're shooting it in a bolt action or semi that can cycle light loads, it's about the best deal going on 7.62/.308. It sells for just under $15 a box where I live.

Aren't the PTR-91 rifles rated for .308 though, which is typically loaded to higher pressures than x51 NATO? I wonder if that ammo would reliably cycle in a x51 only chamber.

This ammo would only be used in a bolt action, and mostly for plinking, so I'm not to worried if they are a little weaker powder charge.

It would be nice to see some chrono readings on the stuff.

Good reason...

Woodchuck Assassin--$.75/round = nice price?? Yeesh! XLNT reason to get into reloading, IMHO!!

It goes bang and makes 5-6" groups at 100 yards out of two different bolt actions: a heavy barrel Rem 700 and a savage axis that both shoot 1" @ 100 yards with Federal Gold Medal Match. My friend, (tacxted on here) bought a few boxes and we did a literal side by side comparison with cross reference shooting both guns with FGMM then the ZQ1.

Personally I wouldn't pay $0.25 a round for this junk much less $0.75. I feel any use of it beyond completely casual plinking is pointless and likely would do more harm than good to any skills you may be trying to develop. Tacxted doesn't mind it for basic practice. If available Federal Power Shok 150gr Blue box .308 usually costs $16 / box of 20rds at Walmart and has consistently shot around 1.5" @ 100yrds for me.

Its now $9.95 a box for the 7.62x51 at most Wal Marts I've been to in Florida. Just blew through a bunch this weekend in my PTR 91. Works every good as the 7.62 NATO white box ammo from Federal and Winchester.

"Made in Turkey"

Is that a good or bad thing?
They make fine carpets, leather goods and pomegranate juice. I would think the ammo is at least as good as stuff from Russia. I wish they had some in 7.62x39. Twenty pack of WBW 7.62x39 at Walmart costs more than at Gander Mountain.

Theres probly some decent priced stuff at J&G sales or Sportsmans Guide, better quality.

I too have found it for $10 in some FL walmarts. My question is whether it is the actual 7.62 nato loads like it says? My concern being it doesn't have the telltale cross headstamp. I figure it's close enough but being that I would be shooting it out of one of those milsurps I want to be extra careful of any pressure differences between commercial vs nato brass/pressures to prevent premature wear.

Is there any way to find out for sure that it is loaded to NATO pressure standards? If the only thing keeping it from getting the stamp is the case annealing or something I don't care, mostly just concerned about pressure.

Get it while you can @$10/20. I spoke with the department manager at my Wally and she said.. no more to come, one time buy. And it is MKE/STANAG.
