LA....Lower Alabama, I think. The tinfoil confuses
I'm looking at two barrels. Both are Recon profile 416ss. The only difference is the Wilson is a 1:7 twist and the DPMS is a 1:9 twist. I would think the Wilson would be better, but I'm not sure. Which would you choose?
Also I just found a Rainer Arms with a 1:8 twist for the same price.

No experience with the Wilson barrels, owned a few DPMS rifles over the years, all shot well enough. Have several rifles wearing Rainer barrels, have helped friends build 8 using their barrels and so far no complaints. Only barrels mfg. that I know of that offers a 90 day no questions asked return policy on their barrels.

Wilson ARMS is a great barrel when talking heavy barrels with a 223 wydle chamber as it will shoot ether 223 or 5,56 . Wilson combat is a different grade of barrel more inline with your dpms. mid production grade.

I feel like I have read this elsewhere . What do you want a barrel to do ? Skinny thin short barrel for bang'un rounds and have'n fun or set up and shoot little groups. ground hog hunts or something in between.

S.S., 18 inches 1:8 Barrel with a Wylde chamber would be my pick for my next build.
I don't know for sure if anyone is even making them, but the idea seems like a real winner.
The versatility along with accuracy and durability; I just don't see how you could go wrong.

This sent me on a search and yes Rainier Arms sells a barrel that meets my needs, a bit pricey but it is an Ultramatch.

I'm in the process of building several rifles. Already have an m4orgery. I want this one to be setup for shooting somewhat small groups with a variety of bullet weighs.

I shot the DPMS MK12, 18", 1:8 barrel in 3 gun for 4 years. It did not like wolf ammo. Otherwise, it was a very good barrel. DPMS are good barrels to start with. Mine shot .75-1.5 MOA with most ammo. Even after 4000+/- rounds it was a 1.25-1.5 MOA shooter.

I wanted to replace it with a 16" Wilson combat lightweight, 1:8, but they were never in stock. Wilsons makes very good barrels.

I ended up with the Rainier Arms medcon 16", 1:8, NATO. It is very light and much more accurate than the DPMS. The Rainier barrels have the 5r polygonal rifling. Easier to clean and you pick up a little velocity. My 16" Rainier shoots a little faster velocities than the 18" DPMS with 6 land and groove rifling.

There are a lot of very good barrel makers out. Set a budget range and get the best value within that budget of those manufacturers.

All the barrels I'm looking at are within $30 of each other.

Posted in your other thread but here is better than both:http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-18-SPR-SS410-Barrel-Rifle-Length-Gas-Ionbond-p/bcm%20ss410%2018-8%20ib%20bk.htm

The BCM is a better grade of stainless, I wouldn't put a DPMS/BUSHMASTER/REMINGTON barrel on any rifle I own. They have went downhill since being purchased by Freedom Group, hell they destroyed Marlins rep in just a few years. Run Away, Run Away. Wilson is a top tier in price, middle grade in materials manufacturer. They make okay stuff but charge like it's the best of the best. They are a much better company though and use better materials than DPMS ever has.

PSA's FN barrels are also very nice but they aren't stainless. Many report MOA or sub MOA performance from their chrome lined barrels. I learned the hard way on everything, I started out with a Bushmaster jamomatic went away hating ARs then came back years later a little smarter. I got the AR itch again but instead did research and bought a much better rifle for for what that horrid BM cost me. Watch and read all the reviews you can.

If you can spend a little more then you'll probably be better off. When it comes to ARs the motto "Buy once, Cry once" applies.

What size bullets are you wanting to shoot through it? That could be a make or break it on barrel twist.

I would lean toward the Wilson, all else being equal. DPMS makes some pretty accurate rifles, but I've seen some tolerance issues that would make me steer clear of them.
