The hole in the slide stop is the tip off. They were good guns, reliable and rugged, but heavy as hell. With a full magazine they are a bear to even pick up, let alone carry. Of course that means they shoot well; recoil is close to non-existent. They were the French service pistol for a while, IIRC.

They are hammer fired and use a rotating barrel in a basic Petter design. The 15 round magazine gives them the nomenclature, P-15.

The original finish is a very smooth, gray, phosphate coating over an excellent polish. That one has lost some of its finish on the edges, but appears to be in good condition. It would be no surprise to find French weapons in Equatorial Africa; they had colonies in that region for years and still have a substantial military presence in many of those countries.

I note that some are shown on the internet as "PA-15", but mine is marked "Model P-15". That may be an export marking, but unless I see something different, I will go with what is on the gun.

I was also thinking MAB PA-15. Had one many years ago and found it to be a very reliable and accurate, though somewhat heavy, 9mm. pistol.

Don't know but I'd love to find something with the finish worn like that.

Then again I'm more of a VG instead of EF/AU type of guy...

Actually the original finish on my MAB PA-15 looked just like that: a somewhat matte blued finish that appeared to have been rather well worn in quite a few areas on the gun. Never had any problems with it; just that it looked like the bluing process had been a very thin application to begin with.

Browning Hi - power, 9mm

Not a hi power. The recoil guide rod sticking out below the barrel on the front of the slide is incorrect for a hi power as is the thickened slide rail area.
MAB pistol is probably correct especially given the French activity in large parts of Africa in the 50s 60s and 70s.
