The guy I bought this upper from claimed it was a Stag Arms Model 4 upper. The barrel may be but as far as I know Stag has never made a true A2 upper.

The FSB is a JP Enterprises adjustable. I just realized it was adjustable when I took these pictures. Makes me feel like I got a deal now.

The barrel is heavy, which I like. I'm a little confused what's going with that patch of stainless under the gas block. From what I can tell from the Stag Arms site even their bare barrel is all black.

My plans are to get a stripped flat top upper receiver and put a scope on it, probably a 3-9x40. I have a cross hair front sight post on it now which I like. However, since I put it on I'm shooting about a foot high and I've run out of adjustment to lower it.

Any guesses on the stainless portion of the barrel or help with sights is appreciated.

It was probably a factory upper at one point. Some companies don't parkerize the barrel under the gas block. With a mil spec a2 you won't notice it. The best part of the ar15 is almost everything is interchangeable between companies.

The stainless poking out is weird. Is it bare stainless under the handguards? A standard FSB doesn't cover that part of the barrel, so . . . maybe the previous owner sanded it to fit that aftermarket FSB????

If so, maybe it ain't stainless and is just white steel.

Also, what the heck kind of front sight "post" is that? It looks like a swing swivel from a hunting rifle.

I just don't think Stag ever made a 20" A2. The Model 4 is an A4 with an detachable carry handle. I'm thinking someone got a Stag barrel and built on to it. Idk why someone would spend over $100 on an adjustable FSB then open it all the way.

That's the only part "in the white". Doesn't look modified in anyway. Very clean, not even machine marks.

This is the front sight. My wife hates peep sights so this helps her quite a lot. Just need to aim 12 inches high.
