Maryland laws for out of state license holder?

As per FEDERAL rules, providing the purchase of a longgun is legal in BOTH states, you are good to go............and I would lean heavily towards the shotgun over the levergun

Your Texas handgun permit is meaningless in MD.
As for long guns, google the MD laws and call the MD state police.
As a Va resident I avoid MD.

As a Virginia resident, I've had no problem buying long guns (except so-called "assault weapons") from dealers in Maryland. They just run the NICS check and you're good to go.

Know the laws there. Does MD have the Castle Doctrine or No Right to Retreat? If you defend yourself inside your home - will you be the one that goes to jail? Study up...

If you are renting a house or apartment, you can keep a handgun at your home in Maryland. No need in buying another gun. You just have to transport it to your home unloaded and in the trunk of your car from your home in Texas. You can take it back and forth to the range unloaded and in the trunk.

Maryland does not recognize any other state handgun carry permit.

There are restrictions on sale and import of "assault rifles" and a ban on "assault pistols" (like the TEC-9) but there will be no problem with an ordinary shotgun or sporting rifle, even a semi-auto (e.g., Remington 7400).

You can bring a handgun into MD under FOPA and keep it in your residence with no permit or registration required, but transporting or carrying it in the state without a permit is restricted - to/from a range or informal shoot, to/from a place of sale/repair, etc.

MD has no "castle doctrine" or "stand your ground" laws as such, but there is a widely accepted body of law which is basically common law. You can defend yourself in your home against a threat of death or GBH; any illegal intruder can be assumed to be a threat because he is in your house. (As always, anywhere, make sure the "intruder" is not your girlfriend or the meter reader.) Outside the home is problematical, since a handgun carry permit is almost impossible to obtain.

Why not buy a shotgun in your home state before going to MD? Guarantee it will be cheaper, and there are no restrictions I know of to your bringing it into the state when you come.
