.243?

Accubonds and IMR 4064. Black bear, black tail, wolf, and antelope! Previously I used 95 gr. Partitions for the same animals!

I burn a lot of 22 in 300 WM, 7 mag, and .270, so I imagine it would probably do great in .243 as well. Gonna give that a try as soon as I get finished with all the last minute hunters beating down my door to get them ready for the season.

I've shot quite a bit of IMR 7828 in the .243 Win. ... it works very well with 95 and 100 grain bullets... I have never used RL22 in the .243 W ... but it is slightly faster burning(#130 on Hodgdon Burn Chart) than IMR 7828(#133)... Alliant list 43.5 grains(RL22) under the 100 grain for 3004 fps... it and more is at their web site...

Well I decided that since I can get the Hornady 100 grain BTSP I am going to try RL-22. And if that don't work, I will try some SSC7828 I have. It seems that most favor a heavy bullet with slower powder, so I will give it a whirl.

Another vote for, 100 gr Sierra gameking and IMR 7828. I think 7828 will work great with any 95 or 100 gr pill. And it's easy to find.

Well I found some 7mm 08 brass to night so I resized it into 243. It's the first time I have done that procedure. Seemed pretty simple. Good thing I don't have a 7mm 08.

I worked up a woodchuck load for my Sako using IMR 4064 and 85 gr BT. I found this combination the most accurate for my rifle.

I use 95gr Ballistic Tips over H4350 for my deer load. The 95 gr BT is actually a pretty stoutly constructed bullet, I get complete penetration and great internal damage on deer. I'd probably just use that same load on coyote, but if I were developing a specific load for coyote, I might use something like the 70 gr Speer TNT, I've seen really good accuracy out of that bullet when loaded over IMR 4064.

Right now my deer load is 100gr Sierra Pro-Hunter over H414.
Why 414 ? Well at the time it was all I could find that was suitable. When I get a chance this fall to get a couple pounds of 4350 or something a little slower I'll work up another load. I'm under 1" MOA most of the time, and under 1.5 all the time. For a hunting rifle that is plenty good.

For varmints I've been working with 87gr Hornady Vmax, but haven't found the perfect load yet. Still around 1.5" MOA and would like to tighten it up.

Well load development starts tomorrow. I emptied the 20 factory rounds I bought the other day and I have to admit, I am really happy with the way it shoots.

For 243 Winchester,100 g Sierra gameking and 41.7 grains IMR 4350 does very well for me. 2750 fps out of an 18.5 inch barrel, and shoots better than I can. It's my deer load.

I really like H414. At the time I got my .243 it was the only thing available, and it keeps putting bullets in ragged holes, so I keep buying it. My favorite is 95gr Accu tip, followed by 100gr Hornady. I have 2.5 lbs of 414, so it might be a while before I try something else.

Sierra 75 grain HP with either H414 (mag primer), or H4530. Almost one hole groups @ 100 from my HB custom Mauser. Over the years, I can't recall an inaccurate .243 Winchester rifle. Best stock rifle I ever saw was a super beat up 788. I don't think any load used went over .5 at 100. Pushing Rem 80 grain match HP's too fast= some never made it to the target.

Although 55 grain BT's are not great for super long range, they are very accurate for me, and cross the screens at over 4000 fps. Hits on crows look like a black puff of smoke. My particular rifle seems to shoot best at max speed, and does not like "fast" propellants. Just a great cartridge.

I've used RL22, but except for one rifle, (a Savage M200) all have preferred IMR4350. Also, the RL22 load that shot well was a tad slow (2,800fps range).

I do have a good quantity of 7828 so will try it with the Sierra's and see how if "suits" my rifle. My older brothers Savage M110 really liked IMR4831. My nephew took a number of Montana Mulies with that under a Hornady 100gr Interlok.

Indeed grubbylabs.... I won't "waste" my 7mm08's on .243's !!!
But, I had lot's of .243brass, and $300 of Academy Sports gift cards and no .243 at the moment. It just seemed to be the thing to do at the moment... I actually "like" the rifle. Can't justify the expense of "rebarreling" it to .250Savage. Then, I'd have to get dies and brass.... besides, the .257Roberts was so jealous, I had to use it to shoot my first deer with this year.... And it just keeps getting better and better with age....!

Well I loaded up some around the 44 grain mark. I also loaded some up a little longer. For a $200 dollar rifle I am pretty happy with it so far. Factory ammo did well enough to hunt deer with. And my hand loads seem to do a little better.

But Grubby, didn't you read up above, the 100gr bullets won't shoot good in a .243 Win, they are too long....

Glad the 22 is working for ya. Like I mentioned before I have used it in a few loads, but simply to see how they shot, not enough to fully wring them out. Since the H-4350 works in several rifles I more or less am using it instead as well as some limited use of H-100V. There again I have only worked up that one load with it, but it shoots so well I haven't looked elsewhere.

Well I am not sure my expectations should be as high as they are, but since that group was on a wobbly table and we had a strong tail/cross wind that was moving my target board around, I am pretty happy with that load.

That was 44 grains and I loaded in 1/2 grain increments. So I loaded some more at 43.8-44.0 and 44.3 I also loaded some to mag length with moved me from seating the bullet right at the top of the crimp ring, to seating a couple thousand under. Now I just need some time to get back out to shoot.

But I would call those first loads pretty close to minute of bunny, and if I can hold them that good, we should have some pretty messy piles around here by spring time. Plus I am hoping to try for Yoty's this winter.

Oh and the nice thing about the RL-22 is that its what my 300 win likes, so commonality in powders is a good thing. Oh expect a shortage of RL-22 soon.
