I shoot a 243 and will be reloading for coyote. what is a good bullet? i was planning on ordering 75 gr. hornady v-max but heard they will wreck the hides? is this true? I would like to keep the hide in good shape but i would like a good long range accurate bullet that wont be affected to badly by wind.

Vmax is usually pretty explosive, so I think it may be rough on the hides for sure.

Have you looked at some of the more traditional bullet designs? Like say a sierra gameking or something similar? They would hold together better and penetrate rather than expand so violently I would think.

A good old sierra matchking could work as well, but may not be as reliable.

What weight bullet are you wanted to shoot? Range?

It depends on what you call long range. If your talking 600+ I can't help but if were talking 100 or 200 i might give you a base to test & work with. Heaver bullets hold together better but will give you pass through so it will make 2 holes but won't blow the backside out of it. You can also slow the bullet down which probably will give you the pass through as long as you don't hit large bones. You might also look into using fast powders I won't list any data because I want you to do your own in depth studying to see if it is right for you but Red Dot or Blue Dot does amazing things. I am using something like Blue Dot now. I would learn to use Blue Dot before trying Red Dot.
