Help Me Decide: Ruger Blackhawk or Beretta 71?

Man, I'd be all over the Beretta. Not that the Ruger isn't nice, but it's not a gun that you'll NOT find later on. You may not get another crack at a 71, and frankly spending quality time at the range with a 22LR is as cheap and as satisfying as it gets.

Easily the Beretta. It's a world-class rimfire pistol that's not easy to find, and that's an outstanding price. A New Model Blackhawk is easy to find if this one's not around later.

I really like Blackhawks.....BUT..... I can walk into any gun shop or pawnshop in the US and likely find several. Or look in my gun safe for that matter.

I would if I had the funds buy the Beretta in a heart beat, for sure the model with the long target barrel, which was factory BTW.

OP, if you decide not to buy the Beretta, please PM me your friend's contact info.

Sorry Austin TX, but I heard the majority opinion and bought that baby myself! I have to agree with some of the fans of this gun; the fit and finish are better than most $400+ new .22s on the market today. It's just ... sleek. The grip is a little small in my hand, but even so, I have already shot groups at 15 yards with it smaller than I ever got with my Ruger Single-Six. I am quite satisfied. It's very easy to go through an entire box of ammo with this thing without even thinking about it.

And now I'm saving for the Blackhawk!

BTW, thanks to everyone who responded. I did learn a few things by reading this thread, which would have been true no matter what I bought.

Ah, well, I had to try. :)

But I'm glad you bought it and are enjoying it! Congrats!

I have 4 Beretta 70/71s and no Ruger .357s.
You won't find another deal like that in a nice Beretta any time soon. Definitely get that first.

This is a case where you really have to follow your heart. Why? Because these are not SD/HD guns so the normal metrics of quality, reliability, accuracy, ammo availability simply don't apply. And everyone has a different heart.
But if I were following my heart, I'd go for the .357 in a flash. Seems like it needs a little bit of work, but is readily done. Plus the RH is sort of a classic. Less from a financial/collector perspective but more that it's on the top 10 list of guns that define the .357 genre. And the .357/38s round(s) is/are just so flexible. Finally the OP even said that he (presumed) has wanted one.
The Beretta is nice (and a small downpayment as suggested by others is a great idea) but the Ruger Red is excellent. And seems like a good price too.

Edit: sorry that I missed your note that you had already chosen. GL with it. I'm sure you'll really like it. Glad you're going to go for the other one as well. Now: PICTURES?

Blackhawk for certain. Friend had stainless in 44 mag and it was best made revolver I've ever shot. Sturdy, simple, accurate, powerful, and beautiful.

thats a really good price on both guns. id get them both but the ruger first as id get more use out of it.

i had that same ruger i got around 81 and it was really a nicer gun than they put out today. better blueing mostly. its one gun i regret selling. now if i could get my stupid brother to sell it back to me id be happy!
