Facebook’s ban on gun ads has been extended to include efforts to keep arms safe and out of the hands of children, such as trigger locks and safes.

In a move that appeared to contradict Facebook’s bid to promote safety, the Internet giant refused to let the nation’s largest gun dealer advertise safes or vaults over Veterans Day.

Seems somewhat contradictory to me, but then "progressives" seems to be oxymoronic to me as well

Their site, their rules?

A safe seems pretty mundane though.

The High Road is about as social media as I get.

I keep hearing this stuff but I am a regular in several gun groups on facebook and have yet to see a single one of them shut down. I get regular updates from Beretta as well.

Just for giggles, I just went to FB and did a search for all sights containing the phrase "gun safes". There were dozens of results just on page1.

Move along... nothing to see here.

Just another reason for me to not do Facebook. I'm sometimes surprised it doesn't look like a bunch of ostriches, all with their heads buried in the sand.

Facebook is like Trix. It's for kids.

Actually in the eyes of the industry it's mostly for "old" people (by "old" I mean over 25). The kids have moved on to different sites.

Overall though - it's their site. I don't really have a big issue with private companies disallowing firearms related ads and the like. It's only a problem if the government does it.

Just cancelled my FB account. It's nice to see what people from high school are up to, but I am not going to support the socialists anymore.

Well, I keep mine open so I can see what my kids are doing that they don't tell me about. Of course they are both north of 35 so there's nothing too scandalous on there. Except that posting where my son got a new Garand and didn't tell the old man about it. :scrutiny:

I had the same experience trying to run an ad on Facebook last month. It took several emails and a day later they approved my generic ad. They kept denying the ad saying it was against their weapons policy. Seemed computer generated and after someone apparently reviewed my request it was accepted. I didn't try to submit the other one again.

I think what Facebook is limiting is gun commerce, not gun discussion. They are pretty picky about turning the site into another crags list. The reality is if you are constantly advertising anything for sale you'll probably get shut down unless your a commercial site. I've never seen any of the other so-called FN "censorship".

One cannot just cancel their FB account, there are numerous hoops to jump through. I know this from thinking I had canceled few years ago, only to find out it was unknowing reactivated by me. I then went back and had to do all their crap to get it truly canceled and scrubbed into Hades.

I used FB for one reason only...

We have a "secret" page for vetted Special Forces members of known association only and it's been wonderful for re-establishing contact with former team mates and associates.

Of the many and manifold problems I have with FB, none of them really amount to much as I view it as "some one else's sandbox, some one else's rules". One however that chafes my behind is that I can no longer share photos on FB without the implied consent that FB do what they wish with them in perpetuity.

Sharing photos here is generally inconsequential to me but to date, at least two of the photos that I shared on FB have been sold off and made their way to third party publications. Being of potentially, highly personal content... I/we, ain't none too pleased with the FB these days. Likewise, anecdotes and shared memories.

Color me FB-free. More's the pity as it was an amazing tool for re-connecting and staying connected until and as such...

This. Several pages that buy/sell/trade every day that FB has no problem with. I've been told the private sales groups they've shut down were because something not right was going on in them. Not sure about the safes, but on the occasion I do get on I see stuff from the NRA and plenty of gun companies.

I keep seeing this crap come up yet every gun page I'm subscribed to on FB is running strong.

If you're interested try "Cold Dead Hands". It is a HUGE with nearly a million members.
The page "2nd Amendment" has nearly 2 million.
The page "Guns and Patriots" has a half million.
I'm a member of "Central Arkansas Gun Traders" where nearly 15,000 Arkansans discuss firearms and buy, sell and trade every day.

There are literally dozens of others.
Some are so extreme I won't even join them just because I don't want to be associated with the fringe groups that are barely coming short of inciting violence (most are not this way. I only mention it to validate how lenient they are regarding pages).

I don't know where these claims come from of FB banning gun related material, but it is aparantly BS.

Facebook is fine with firearm related posts, pages, etc. You cannot use Facebook paid advertising for firearms related ads. So, I can have a Facebook page for my gun shop with prices, specials, etc, but I can't use Facebook paid ads to show my gun deals on other Facebook pages.

As mentioned many of us are on PRO GUN Facebook groups. Some of the folks there make the pro 2nd crowd here look like pikers. My daughter says Facebook is for old people anyway.

Brownell's is on Facebook. So is Smith&Wesson.

And MidwayUSA. And Ruger. And Beretta. And Glock. And Taurus.

As a matter of fact if you wanted to make a realistic and short list, it would need to be of companies NOT on Facebook rather than those that are.

Pretty much any company worth mentioning has a Facebook page. I truly don't get the "It's just for kids" posts. Facebook is a primary means of communication for many - and that's not just limited to social stuff. Heck as someone who doesn't do TV anymore (I watch shows but only on Netflix) generally when I hear about news its over Facebook, not the evening newscast or a paper. There's a lot of businesses communicating over Facebook too.

People don't have to participate, but they're just being naive to try and trivialize Facebook (or social media in general).
