Started loading for the 222 Remington and noticed the Lyman 48 lists a max charge of 26.2 of H335 while the hodgdon site lists a max of 24 with roughly the same pressure. Seems like 2.2 grains is a big difference, is my manual outdated?

Manuals reflect conditions on the day of the test using the exact components listed. However, powder does change slightly from lot to lot, but not enough to worry about. 2.2 isn't much either. Look at Hodgdon's site for different bullet weights. Lots of max loads with 2+ differences. Pressures are averages anyway.

Don't recommend going with maximum charges, whoever gives the numbers. Work the loads up with your rifle and components.

Different bullets will generate different pressures. I didn't go in the basement to check whicb bullets Lyman was loading but I'm guessing the bullet they used to develop the data was different than the bullet Hodgdon used. The depth of the bullet is probably different too...

Different min/max load data is a good reason to have several different manuals........Also,newer manuals tend to be more conservative in their loads than older editions....
