Remington R-1 Comander temptation?

Saw one at the LGS new for $550 and it appears a $75 rebate is still in effect?
My Colt Series 70 Mk IV Gov. seems about 3/4" too long to conceal comfortably.
If the $75 rebate is still good I would be lookin at $485 OTD.
Should go for it

Yes, it's a nice gun. I have been eyeballing it for a year now, I just never see them in gun stores.

Is it aluminum frame? If not, I'd pass on it. A commander size that is all steel is just as difficult to carry as a full size. It's the grip, not the barrel that's difficult to conceal.

It's steel, and I prefer that. This would be for carry in cooler temperatures, I have smaller handguns for warmer temps.
I've had a hankerin for a commander length 1911 for some time, and I'm wondering if this would be a decent choice.

If the R1 Commander is what you want then at that price I would go for it. One of my all-time favorite 1911 variations is the Colt Combat Commander. I just prefer the shorter length slide, in terms of overall balance and handling, to that of the full size Government Model.

I've shot the R1 Government and I liked it, I was impressed with the accuracy.
I put the gun on layaway as the background check would have taken an hour, I will pick it tomorrow.

I disagree I can not sit with a 5" barrel It wants to push up . The commander is the perfect length . I also like the balance better .Than the 5" Government.

That why I only have 2 Government and several Commanders steel and alloy frame

Thanks, it was a limited run that came out of the Colt Custom Gun Shop some years ago. Tuned and accurized, Gold Cup trigger, MMC rear sight, and a bright nickel finish. This gun with 185 grain match ammo will shoot as well as (and maybe even a little better sometimes), than a Gold Cup.

Well I picked up the R-1 for $550 and from what I can tell the $75 rebate is still good :scrutiny:

This Rem. 1911 R-1 is the base model, so no adjustment for trigger travel

This 1911 appears to have a cast frame and slide, most of the parts and pieces appear to be MIM.
This is what I expected, and so far it behaves much like a Colt series 80.

Would I still buy it now? Yes. But If I had a few hundred more to spend?????

I have never fired the Remington Commander, but have a R1S full size and really enjoy it. It shoots well, is very dependable, and is comfortable in my hands. To me, Remington makes a great mid priced weapon.

Having both a 5" and now a 4 1/4" that 3/4" makes quite a difference.

have a R1S full size and really enjoy it. It shoots well, is very dependable

This has been my experience so far, but I've only put about 200 rounds threw it 50 of which were jHP's the gun appears to be dependable.
