I have the 351c and it's a fantastic carry package at 12-oz fully loaded. For self defense, .22 Magnum is fine, especially with short barrel defensive loads like the Speer Gold Dots.

I like having the extra 2 rounds. I like the XS Big Dot front sight. I like the ultra light weight. I like the wide selection of aftermarket grips available. I do not like the super heavy trigger, but I have learned to use it effectively. The trigger does make for very safe carry, as there's almost no way it could be pulled by accident. I have a lot of confidence in the little J-frame, and it has performed flawlessly.

But, the 351c is expensive and the trigger takes practice to get used to. The LCR is cheaper, probably a bit more rugged, and likely has a better trigger. But it only holds 6 and is larger and heavier than the 351c. If the LCR fits your pocket (and budget) it's probably the better value.

I think either one is fine for self defense. An Emergency Room doctor told Paco Kelly than if he was going to carry .22 Magnum, then "put the first shot in the belly". He said even the largest man would double over in pain, and subsequent shots, if needed, could be more carefully placed.

My pick in a .22 mag/.22 lr would be the NAA Black Widow. The bigger magnum frame, two inch heavy barrel, enhanced sights, and over sized grips make this an impressive, small, accurate, and very portable gun. I bought one sometime back and my wife really, really, liked it when I brought it home. So, I went back to town and bought me one.

I don't own a .22WMR revolver, but my wife has had a NAA revolver for many years. She loves it. I've thought about getting one, but I'm stuck in the .38 J-frame mindset. I don't perish the thought of carrying one like some do, but it would not be my first choice.

If you're down to just between those two, I, personally, would lean towards the Smith. Otherwise, look at all the options available. There are some very good revolvers out there with other names on them.

Ruger new model single six. 6" barrel. Not a carry piece but one of the best triggers to be found (stock). I understand that this thread was kinda with the intent of carrry, but also about trigger, just my 1.5 cents.

For the price of .22 mag ammo I'd just get a .327 or a used Colt Dick Special in .38.

I even know where to get a Dick Special in .32 long!

But if you must get a .22 magnum, maybe a used High Standard .22 magnum Sentinel snub.

They are 9 shot revolvers.

If its for concealed carrying, then withdraw my vote for "other."

If I'm going to carry, I want something a littler bigger, .44 at least.

For CC the NAA, BLACKWIDOW w/ 2" Blr. is a good pistol to start with. The NAA, EARL w/3" Blr. is a good pistol for CC also. The grip for a BLACKWIDOW can be bought & exchanged for the plow handle grip that comes standard on the Earl. They are slow to reload, but give 5 rd. s for instant use. The NAA Earl & Mini Master can be had w/4" Blr.s.& are still fairly easy to carry. You can chose a small frame from S&W, Ruger, Taurus ect. They make several fine .22 mag. handguns now days. You can find the NAA MINI-MAG,w/1.63" Blr. Revolvers for sale used at the pawn shops & pick a extra one up so you have two. One for each pocket! J.A.T.:)

The poll as stated seems useless to me, as there is no definition or context given.......

My only .22WMR handgun was stolen awhile back. Though I usually shot .22 Colibri from it (spider duty - we have BIG 'uns down here...) I did occasionally shoot CCI Maximags with it. The recoil of any .22WMR handgun would be no problem for a woman to handle. It's the loud noise she must get accustomed to.

Funny you mention that! I put the grip from my Black Widow on the Earl because I thought the Earl might make a handy, minimalist "kit gun" for the trail (I have the .22 WMR cylinder, but I would probably use .22 LR cylinder for that purpose).

I actually wanted to streamline the profile on my Black Widow a little bit, so I got a Pug grip to replace the grip I put on the Earl. My hands aren't that big, and I find that the Pug grip has sufficient "real estate" to provide me a secure hold.

The other handgun is the NAA mini-revolver in .22 LR for comparison.
