Like everything in Russia, a handgun switch doesn't occur overnight.
They "Standardized" the AN-94 assault rifle in 1996....

And now it's the AK12. I thought they were supposed to be going to the Strike One?

Looks like the Russians have a Gyurza or some such 9x21mm round that is designed to penetrate body armor from a handgun. Info is hard to come by about that round.

"...Sure Putin will nix any export to the US..." I think that was done long before Comrade Putin took over. U.S./Russian import/export agreement under Slick Willy. I think.
Putin would be ecstatic to be able to sell anything Stateside. He needs and wants hard currency to fund his military adventures.

Bet it's better than that Beretta 92FS. Multiple locking lugs, ugly, but it has only 17 parts.

Yeah - it's particularly unattractive looking at the muzzle end, but sometimes there's beauty in simplicity. The Glock I already consider to be a darned simple design, and the Gsh-18 has HALF the parts count of a Glock.

We probably can't get an export of the real thing, but I'd like to see a clone imported from someone. I'd probably get one just as a curiosity.

Few years back, Larry Vickers, on one of his shows, went to Russia, highlighted the factory where this pistol is made, schmoozed with the owner/designer, and shot a few mags through the piece. Looked like a pretty conventional polymer pistol, a little on the large side.

I'm pretty sure that we aren't going to be seeing any Russian Makarov's hitting American shores due to the arms sanctions imposed on Russia due to Ukraine in March of last year.

This administration blocked the re-importation of hundreds of thousands of US made M1 Carbines and Garands given to South Korea (before caving on the Garand's) and they're an ally.

Obama Administration continues importation ban on 600,000 M1 Carbines - Agrees to allow importation of 86k M1 Garand's which reverses earlier decision (*Click for link*)

Always had a love for russian weapons. That gsh18 and the 9x21mm pistol.......look good. Sure would like to yet ahold of those.....plus more modern russian maks......wow....... would be a nice addition to my collection. One can wish and that's about all ill get to do it seems......

Hmm, 17 parts. Definitely less to break with a count like that. Love to have one just for grins.

Nobody does simple better than the Russians

Exactly. In the earlier days of manned space flight, NASA spent the equivalent of millions in today's dollars developing a pen that would write in zero-gravity conditions, so astronauts could record notes related to their orbital experiments.

The Russian cosmonauts used pencils.

These are the parts that make up the handgun.

Complete myth.

NASA astronauts used inexpensive fiber-tipped Pentel Sign Pens beginning with the Gemini missions.
