General question, Powder for the 45 ACP

I have recently started using Promo with 200 grain cast SWC and have been pleased with the results. I have a couple of coffee cans full of them that I put together over the last month or so. So far only my XD doesn't like them. My P220 gobbles them up.

Hmmmm ,,, I bought a # of this powder 4 or 5 years ago for a 9mm I had ,then promptly traded the 9mm ( powder has been sleeping in cabinet since ) and have been curious about using it in my 1911 cartridges, i'll have to tinker with it a while and see how it goes.

My 45"s have been fed a steady diet of 700x for a while now but I do like ole bullseye as many have already lamented ,,,,, just happens I can get 700x easier than bullseye,,,,,, :)

When I started reloading and was hunting for powder I was told that one of the best powders for the .45 acp was Clays but to load it at max.. On another gun forum the members seem to really promote it but I don't really see it being mentioned here much. Now I'm sitting on a few lbs. and don't really know what to think.

Clays works well for light target loads in .45 ACP. It doesn't seem to be as popular as it once was though, but of course none is available either.

Bullseye is pretty darn hard to beat and I still use it the most. The most accurate .45 ACP powder I have ever found was the now discontinued Winchester Super Target. That stuff was incredible. I still wish I had stocked up on it when it was available. WW 231 is a good powder but seems to have a slightly snappier recoil impulse. Red Dot works well also if it will run through your powder measure.

Wow, I didnt know that WST had been discontinued. I like it a lot in 45 auto.
I still see it for sale on the web on some sites, but no one actually has any that I can find :)

After years of changing powder I narrowed it down to AA5 with plated 230gr bullets, felt recoil is mild with AA5, I use it in 9mm, 40s&w also, huge difference in 40 as to recoil gives more of a straight back push rather then the whip feel with commercial 40.

I just purchase 4# of WST from Brownells about 1 month ago.

The only Winchester pistol powder that was changed, as far as I know of, was WAP that is now Ramshot Silhouette. :)

WST hasn't been discontinued.

Thanks, I was hoping that Drail had been misinformed. Its a good target powder for me in 45 Auto. I also use Bullseye and W231/HP38. I tried Longshot, but it seems a little slow burning for my 45 auto applications and now save that for my 40 SW.

I like Titegroup, WW231/HP38 and Red Dot in that order for lead.Power Pistol is my go to for jacketed and plated. I haven't tried coated in 45 ACP yet but I would start with Titegroup or WW231/HP38.I wouldn't expect much difference with hard-cast and coated.

Got into the Accurate Arms powders years ago.
Never got real scientific about it.
Been using AA#5 for years and really like being able to make a big hole in the middle of the target. 230gr Win JHP and HP/XTP. Will do home spun lead 228gr rn with it or #2 as well.
As previously stated "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
Meters well and is fairly consistent lot to lot.
Been using it in 9mm and 38spl as well.
