I'd like to get another cylinder for my old army, from what I've found Ruger does not sell these anymore and that they would have to be fitted by Ruger, is that correct?

Classicballistix sells aftermarket cylinders that have slightly deeper chambers allowing an additional 5-10 grns of powder. They give a discount to ROA Group members.

Maybe you can keep an eye open for a ROA that's being parted out.

I have an extra ROA Cylinder I'd sell for $200.

Just know that some Old Armys need to have the cylinders fitted and it's not always a simple drop in.

I know what I am talking about concerning this.

What needs to fitted? Is the cylinder too long or is it the timing slots?

I believe it's the hand or "pawl" length. Maybe Ruger does something to the little holes in the back of the cylinder? I didn't want to mess with my guns and it fitted one OK. I got it in a trade but just don't need it.

No it's not always as simple as filing the hand or the locking latch.

Sometimes the position of the locking latch slot is just in the wrong place for the cylinder being dropped in. This is not a simple fix.

Some cylinders may actually rub on the forcing cone or may be slightly too long causing cylinder drag and binding. This also is not an easy fix.

Although from what I have read many of them interchange cylinders unfortunately not all Ruger Old Armys have the same specs plain and simple.

Read post #5 again please. Then re-read post #7, please. I don't believe I ever used the word "simple".

I've been lucky. All of mine interchange. The ClassicBallistx one is machined to tighter tolerances. All the chambers in it are uniform unlike the Ruger factory ones.`

My classicballistx cylinder fits all three of my ROA's ('73,'94,'95). The '73 cylinder will not index properly in the '94 or '95 or the other way around.
