I've got a 2" S&W Model 12-3, square butt. It currently wears Pachmayr "Gripper" one-piece finger groove grips. While this makes it very comfortable to shoot, I suspect there are better options for concealment. Any suggestions?

VZ grips makes a fantastic square-butt K-frame grip that is small enough to conceal, but large enough to actually shoot with. Highly recommended.

With all my K frames, except for a K-38 with Shooting Stars, I use the factory magnas with T-grip.

This is my Model 12. I carry it from time to time when I feel like going "lite".:)

S&W PC Magnas and Tyler Grip Adapter.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I guess I can spend as much as I want. :p

How about these (Pachmayr Presentations)? They're much cheaper.

I've found the Pach presentations to be very thick.

Pach also makes some grips that have the finger grooves. they are large, but relatively very thin so if I were to try to conceal that big honkin' square butt, I'd want those.
I have them on my Security Six, and they're nice. A bit rough to shoot though because they get pretty narrow right were the thumb meets the web of the hand.

I like the Pachmayr Presentations on square butt K and L frames but for concealment with a Model 12 square butt I would probably opt for the factory Magna grips and a Tyler T-Grip adapter or Kim Ahrends Concealed Carry Boot Grip.

Not pretty, but are more concealable than many other offerings...Hogue black "rubber?" grips. I find I shoot much more accurately with them, also.

I like the Hogues, myself, but for concealment, they're not optimum. They're long as they mount using a screw and stirrup arrangement at the bottom of the grip that makes 'em longer than most. Still, I find that under a baggy shirt, they're concealable, and I love how they feel. There are better grips purely for concealment, though, on a square butt. Really, it don't get a lot better than the thin Smith grips with a Tyler T grip adapter.

Ruger's grip design sure gives one a lot better options.

Devonai,

The problem is that the grips that shoot the softest are usually the stickiest and you have to choose which one works for you. Back when I was still carrying a revolver as a duty weapon, I choose the soft rubber HOGUE grips because they did not slip and move around in my hand and had the softest kick.
Wood grips or hard plastic may not catch on close, but will transmit more recoil and are slipperier. You can live with this depending on your tolerance of recoil.

I was carrying one of two .357 magnum revolvers and would not use anything else on my square butt gun. I used a PACHMAYR Compact Professional on my round butt revolver.

On square butt K frames I like the old, no longer in production, Uncle Mikes. They have the advantage of smoothing the sharp edges that tend to poke show through the cover garment. The downside is that it is a heavy rubber grip. I have no problem with them grabbing the fabric of the shirt with the gun carried IWB.

Isn't the model 12 narrower than steel K frames? Other less sticky grips may not fit as well as the rubber.

Yes, the 12 through 12-3 are slightly narrower. I'm not sure how that would effect another set of grips. The 12-4 variant has the same width as other K-frames.

+1 on factory grips with a Tyler T-Grip. Retains the origional beauty and GREATLY enhances grip and control. All my Service and Security Six's have them.

So, I tried to save a few bucks and ordered the Pachmayr Presentation grips. Turns out they're larger and thicker than the Grippers. D'oh. Fortunately, Brownell's has easy returns.

My 2" Model 12 round butt sports the factory grips plus a T grip. I find that to be the slimmest, easiest to conceal combo to carry IWB.

I've done the Magna/T-grip, and it works great. But, my taper barrel 4" Model 10 has Uncle Mikes/Butler Creek boot grips on it. These are rubber, though they don't seem as sticky as other rubber grips. They are very thin and as small as can be. They shoot very well, and make the 4" Model 10 an easy IWB.

I too, think the original magna stocks are as good as it gets for concealment.

You might consider sanding 'em down to make them even thinner.
Or maybe buy a 2nd pair so you don't wreck the originals.

That's what I did with my 65.
