Ah yes... I think there was a short downpour in the middle of the day that turned a couple of the bays into swamps, and that one with the high window was particularly impacted.
Without ripping the overall match too badly, as that is not my intent, in 2012 they had a large memory stage that was basically a massive forest of barrels that you had to navigate through with random targets all over. They had the whole thing roped off, and if you were a regular shooter, you only got the time it took to reset the stage while you were on deck to get inside the rope and make your plan, which was completely insufficient especially if you were up early in the order.
So I'm in the middle of my run, and get a "cover" call, completely unexpectedly. Figured I was off in my target count somehow (remember, final plan had to be formed in approximately 90 seconds).. froze up. Looked around. Shot the only target I could see from that spot that didn't have holes in it (head only available from there). Rolled through the rest of the stage. So after the run, I go look at that target. Yep, holes in the body and head; as I thought, I had already shot that target from a different position further up range.
I was not given a reshoot... it stood as called, probably cost me, all told, around 8 seconds added to the run because the SO gave me a cover call on a target I already shot, in a memory stage, with near zero walk through. Basically all the bad parts of IDPA culminated in one stage.
They've also been prone to handing out perfect doubles on distant swingers..that kind of deal. But like I said this was all years ago. I'm really not trying to kill anyone's enthusiasm for going to the match; it is in a great location and can make for a very relaxing weekend. When I went, we'd rent a cabin with a crew of people for the weekend and have a great time overall.
