I'm looking for scopes for my BLR. It's a relatively light gun and the round it shoots has a pretty good kick. I want something in the $500 range with:

1. Good eye relief (It has bit me before)
2. Compact
3. compatible with deer hunting 250 yards and in

I've kind of soured on Nikon and Vortex. I own 6 (3 ea) and have had to send 2 of them back for repair (they are new too)

Thanks in advance for your advice

Inside of 250 yards on medium size game, I don't find anything over 6x to be useful but clearly YMMV.

I meant to say "eye relief"

The Leupold you suggested is ~3.5". I'm thinking I want something +4" with this rifle

How about a Leupold or Burris scout scope. Some are fixed magnification and some have variable power. It mounts forward so no chance of scope bite.

1.75x-6x Leupold VX3.
Bingo! That is what all of my scoped DG rifle wear. The biggest I have with a scope is a .404 Jeffery. Eye relief is not a problem. I have a short barreled .375H&H with a VX-III 1.75x6 on it. That rifle has thousands of rounds through it and has accounted for multiple hundreds of head of game in every kind of terrain and condition known to man. Eye relief has never been an issue with that scope. I really don't think you can do any better on a .358 rifle. Just my friendly $.02 of course but I really like the 1.75X6 scope by Leupold.

Thanks guys. Decision made. 1.75x-6x Leupold VX3 it is. I like the idea of setting on lowest power if I'm hunting the think stuff where ranges may be less than 100 yrds

The Leupold has about 4.5" of eye relief at the lowest power setting. You're not going to find many with more. The 3.5" at 6X is typical of what most everyone else is using.

You made a good choice.

Mine wears an older VariX II 2-7x. It had a 2-7x compact but in order for front objective to clear the rear sight, it required medium rings which affected the balance and handling in an adverse way.
I suggest if not the 1.75-6 Leupold, try the 2.5-8x VX-3. My older VariX III 2.5-8x is my favorite hunting scope.

BLR scope recommend Mark AR MOD 1 1.5-4x20mm

image.jpg I have a BLR I've chambered in 6.5 creedmoor and put the Mark AR MOD 1 1.5-4x20mm on it. It matches the proportion of the small gun and provides adequate optics for the hunter. I can hit the steel Ram at 550 yards consistently with no problem seeing it.

I have the VX-3 1.75-6 on a 30-30 and love it. For some reason they don't have as much windage and elevation adjustment as most scopes though, which normally isn't an issue.

My number one, go-to rifle is an '03 Springfield in .308 Norma mag. In 1984, I put a Leupold 3-9X40 Vari.X 2 on it. Eye relief has never been a problem.
The only problem I have is it is beginning to get scratched up.
I would send it to Leupy to be re-coated, but it has not needed any adjustment since. I'm afraid I'll never get it sighted in again.:D
