Cabela's has stopped selling a lot of Pietta percussion revolvers. Try Dixiegunworks or Midway.

1860 London?

My understanding is that colt made some 1860s in their London factory. They were distinguished by having steel or iron back straps and trigger guards instead of brass. So I would assume an 1860/London repro is an 1860 with steel trigger guard etc..

I'm afraid you misunderstand. Colt never made 1860s in London. The London factory closed in 1856. There were some 1860s; as well as other models, made in Hartford that were made for the export trade that had the London barrel address.

All of the 1860s; except some 'Civilian Models' not cut for the shoulder stock, had blued steel back straps with optional brass, silver plated, or blued steel trigger guards.

Maybe, but saying that, that way, is about guaranteed to get most people's hackles up. FYI. Fortunately I'm not most people.

So what do you think experts on these weapons mean when they refer to a Colt London 1860? E.g.

Either way, I assume the OP is looking for a clone of that gun, which is apparently distinguished by ferrous backstrap and trigger guard. Most clones I have seen have brass trigger guards at the least.

Sorry about the wording Ed. I probably should have phrased it better.

My original "1860 London ??" post was questioning Pietta made repros of the extremely rare original 1860 London. I had not seen the Cabelas ad & was unaware of the repros. From the Cabelas web page listing the London 1860s, they were 'sold out'. It appears that the Piettas would be as rare as the originals.

There were some 1860s made in Hartford with the London barrel address and blued steel back strap and trigger guard on a 3 screw frame and British proofs, not London. There were also US or Hartford addressed 1860s that were exported to England and have British proofs. That is what the experts are referring to. Just because a Colt has a blued steel trigger guard, that does not make it a London Model.
