I just got the New Year's Sale flier from EMF.
I knew Uberti made a London version of the .36 1851 Colt revolver but the Pietta version is new to me:
1851 LONDON NAVY

List Price $255 Sale Price $245

.36 Caliber

While it has the correct blued back strap and blued round trigger guard it does not have any marking on the top flat where the Uberti has "LONDON."

The flier also features a Deluxe Engraved pietta 1862 Dance in .44 (sorry still no .36) and a .44 1851 that they put under the London heading but that has brass square back trigger guard and back strap.

Okay... I'm new to C&B revolvers, just got my first one this Christmas so...

Can you edumacate me on what the big deal is with this one, 'cause it's purdy, I just don't know why...

Always had a soft spot for the 1851 navy, especially in 36 caliber. Good looking shooter. Be sure to let us know how she performs.

I have the Pietta London 1851, but I got it from another company .... either Cabela's or Dixie Gun Works, I don't recall. It's a couple years old.
It's a nice gun. Sure it doesn't have "LONDON" on the barrel. I'm not that upset about that, really.

Mauser lover - The Grail of gun collecting (both original and replica) is to have one of everything! The 1851 Colt revolver of Navy caliber (.36) was made in several types with differing trigger guards and back straps and with various barrel addresses. Those with the financial ability to collect original Colts would need a gun safe just for their 1851's if they were lucky enough to find one of each. I did not know that Pietta made their 1851 in this configuration though I had seen the Uberti Londons. The original of this replica Colt 1851 was produced in London at a Colt factory there and the barrel address was marked "Address Col. Colt London" as per this photo from my EMF email:

It had the blued rounded trigger guard and back strap as opposed to the square back, brass or silver plated styles. Apparently Pietta has had these around for a while and I had failed to notice them until EMF stuck it right under my nose! If ASM had made one, they probably would have put the whole correct barrel address on it. Oh well, if wishes were horses...

This is what Dixie has listed as a Pietta London for $250:

But it has the square back brass trigger guard and back strap.
Here is the $345 Uberti version at Dixie:

With the correct blued round trigger guard and back strap along with "LONDON" marked barrel.
Midway is currently out of the Uberti London but offered it in both a 5'' ($299) and a 7.5" ($339) barrel:

Old South has a Traditions/Pietta 1861 "LONDON" Navy for $339:

Which it says has the blued hardware "reminiscent" of the brass free London Colts.
Some other sellers have something they call a London but which looks like a regular 1851.
For $100 less than the Uberti London, the EMF Pietta looks correct and could be the poor/frugal man's obvious choice but I wish it had the barrel address!!!

There were three types of London Model 1851 Navies:

Early London's that were made of parts shipped to London from the Hartford factory. These had predominantly Brass BS/TG and the London barrel address with arrows at each end.

London London's that were made of parts produced at the London factory and other subcontractors. These had blued iron BS/TG and the Col Colt - London barrel address with arrows like the Early London's

Hartford London's were made in Hartford for export to England. They have a London barrel address with dashes instead of arrows at each end and had both blued iron and brass BS/TG.

All three models had English proofmarks.

Fingers McGee - Thanks! Have any been found with the square back trigger guard and were the round guards all the same size?

There were a some Hartford London's with square backed rigger guards and even fewer Early London's. It wouldn't surprise me if they were special ordered. There are six different trigger guards that could have been used. One square back and five different round ones.

I usually buy used guns but I was just tired of waiting to snatch a used Uberti London in this price range (everyone seems to know their value and they do not show up very often on the auction sites) so, in a moment of weakness, I bought the EMF/Pietta London.
I know $10 off is not much of a deal but I am thinking of it as $110 off compared to the Uberti to make my self feel better.
Just watch Cabela's have these for $199 tomorrow!!!
I'll let you know what it's like when I get it.
John Zimmerman at Harper's Ferry said he does not do partial marking (so no just adding a barrel address) and a complete defarbing and remarking would run $200 to $300 depending on how many Italian marks he has to remove (Pietta has a lot!)
How much does a set of alphabet stamps run?
No, no, no I won't do it!
Maybe a decal????

I got my set of alphabet stamps used off fleabay for $20.00 for doing caliber markings etc. You can get a Harbor Freight of numbers and letters for about that much. And... if you are using it once...
