44mag or 10mm for Wilderness Defense?

44 mag isn't magic, anyway. I saw a hog get hit with a 44 mag out of a carbine, decent lung shot. It didn't even seem to notice. And it's not like it was angry. If that hog can run 100 yards, what would an angry black bear do? Honestly curious whether it would die while it mauled me or after it...

    Things to Not Do

From my understanding a no contest plea is simply a deal that you're not going to contest the charges. You're not admitting guilt or denying the charges. So the court finds you guilty. You're still just as guilty either way. You'd probably have to show you were coerced or duped into submitting...

    Appendix carry.

Nice. I didn't know they made an aluminum frame. I love shooting my kimber, but it was heavy for pocket carry.

As a private party, can I still mail a long gun via USPS?

Why did you go through all the trouble of putting that sticky up there?

44mag or 10mm for Wilderness Defense?

I can't think of anything I've ever seen in the woods a 44 mag would stop where a 9mm wouldn't. Most of the time 9mm is what I carry. Yeah, I'd carry a 10mm. If I was somewhere with a lot of big bears, I might consider a 44 mag.

If you could only have 5 handguns?

I'm not sure it's possible. If I had to limit myself to 5 handguns, a 9mm pistol, 44 mag revolver, 357 revolver, 32 mag revolver, 22 revolver and a 22 pistol.

As a private party, can I still mail a long gun via USPS?

The OP is talking about US mail, not UPS. You can mail a rifle USPS- it doesn't have to be overnight.

As a private party, can I still mail a long gun via USPS?

I shipped handguns through USPS with a FFL. Even though it's perfectly legal, there were some post offices that wouldn't do it. I tried to ship during my workday from Palm Beach County, and the two offices I went to wouldn't do it. The answer from the Postmaster General's office was that there's...

    Carry Safety

It's important. But you can still screw that up with a holster in a pocket so loose it doesn't want to stay there, or with a pocket that's so small you can't get a firing grip on the gun. Or with a holster in a purse or briefcase that allows the gun to fall out. Or by having loose crap that can...

    Carry Safety

I get where people are coming from if they're not comfortable with a single action or striker fired pistol for a pocket or purse, but a heavy trigger isn't a substitute for common sense. I don't care how heavy your trigger is, the pistol shouldn't be in an awkward position, with no holster, in a...

    Ankle IFAK advice

I've gotten more use from a first aid kit than a gun. I might look into one of these. Not for the ankle though. I live in Florida- if I have something black around my ankle everybody's going to assume it's an ankle monitor.

Carry Options... Is your gun "shootable" under stress?

I've used one of these for about 10-15 years for jogging. If you have very much of a gut, it's hard to slide the pistol straight down into it. You can end up pointing it towards yourself if you're trying to get it around your gut.

    Most rust resistant handgun?

That's what I had for years. Took it kayaking in the intracoastal, camping, even swamped a canoe in the ocean with it on me. Besides the rust resistance, the thing I like about the Glocks is that they're quick to detail strip and clean up. No roll pins or screws or anything staked in.

Man killed attempting to stop a carjacking

Yeah, if anything he risked his livelihood (his family's livelihood) pulling a gun and shooting at someone to prevent the theft of the NCDOT truck that was issued to him. It's not a stretch to think the state would have fired him for that. And if this was about his livelihood, where is his...

Man killed attempting to stop a carjacking

My understanding is that he intervened in a carjacking of a third party in another vehicle before the criminal stole the truck that he was killed with. In any case, the truck he defended with lethal force and eventually with his own life wasn't his property and was owned by a third party. It...

    Simunition Training

Correct- the way I read their web page, the certified range has to own all of the equipment and isn't allowed to resell it. Firearms Instructor credentials from one of the following certified bodies (NRA, Military, Law Enforcement, Technical College or Private Industry ie., Sig Academy, Smith...

    Simunition Training

Does someone know of a good force or force class out there? I noticed there is a LOT more access for Simunition for civilians than there was a few years ago when I first looked into it. There are at least a dozen in Florida now. https://simunition.com/certified-range-location-florida/ Has...

Carry Options... Is your gun "shootable" under stress?

Not really. As far as civil liability goes, the the cop's employer is going to be held accountable. So the department loses money, the cop gets written up, and taxpayers foot the bill.

Best 9mm revolver for EDC -or- just stay with my 357

The 9mm is a surprisingly lively caliber in a small revolver. Even in a steel J frame, it's a handful. I pocket carried one for a while and it was a lot of weight. I went back to an Airlite 357 loaded with 38 special.
