    Safe bolting

Word of warning if you are drilling in a PT slab you need to be SURE (as in use X-rays) you don't hit a tensioning cable.

Guess the xds is a no go

Shield issues are a tiny number of guns, an easily verified problem, and can be fixed and back in your hands in a week. Springfield is all guns with no fix yet. I would like the XDs in .45, but wouldn't buy a recalled gun with no fix in sight. Your dealer is supposed to pull them from the...

S&W 629 hammer will not come back to fully cocked all the time now?

Is your ejector rod tight and straight? I believe that if it is loose and/or bent, it can cause this problem.

Guns you have bought and never fired?

This is one of the saddest threads I have seen in rifle country in a long time. I have a buddy who has bought and then traded several guns he never shot. Not collectors guns but things like Smith M&P's. He has probably done it about 6 times in the last couple of years.

Gelatin tests: 10mm 200 gr Gold Dot, 175 gr Silvertip, Underwood 165 gr Gol

Did you find that Silvertip round buried in the mud at the range? That's a ton of tarnish on it.

    Hunting from a car

You did say "depending on the location" but the subject of the sentence you used it was a "car with the engine running". The second sentence of your first post makes no location stipulation, although I believe you intended the location disclaimer to apply to everything you said. I bring this...

    USGS estimate of lead?

I agree with the sentiment, but that line of reasoning is specious. Arsenic, uranium, raw crude oil, and a number of other pollutants and toxins "come from the ground" but no one advocates spreading them all over the place after they are extracted and refined. I believe the danger of lead...

    Hunting from a car

As a former game warder, you must realize that the answer is dependent on state code. What is O.K. in LA may not be O.K. in another state.

How to size your pants for IWB carry.

Unless they are REALLY tight, I can carry anything from a shield to a Glock 20 without upsizing. That's with a size 34.

Does it exist?? SA auto hammer down!

Yep, here it is. An ingenious solution to a non- existent problem if you ask me. http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/trigger-group-parts/performance-enhancing-kits/1911-auto-safety-fast-shooting-system-prod27016.aspx

I Need to make a metal target

I have made them and I have bought them. It is cheaper and far safer to bou the target pre made out of the appropriate steel. You can buy just the pre-cut plates and make a stand or sheppards hook to hang them from if you wish to save some money.

IWB suggestion for Glock 20 SF

No problem. I really like it. I have a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 for a 5" 1911. That is one of the best riding easiest concealing IWB holsters I have ever used. I would have bought a sparks SS2 for the Glock 20sf, but I couldn't endure the wait. Comp Tac delivery was very quick. The...

    Wood grip maintenance questions

Strip with an aerosol stripper and nylon brush. Refinish with an oil finish that will not bubble or peel. At least that's my plan when a set of laminated 1911 stocks I have that are doing the exact same thing.

IWB suggestion for Glock 20 SF

I carry a G20sf in a CompTac Infidel with the belt loop option. Think of it as a summer special rendered in Kydek. I like it enough I bought another one for a Shield.

    Your Scariest Hunting Experience?

A long time ago I had a drunk drive by our remote hunting camp while everyone (about 8 folks total) was sitting by the campfire. I was just a kid of about 19 or 20, but I instantly got a bad vibe from the dude. I went to my truck to get away from him. He pulled out a pistol grip shotgun and...

Why are the .22 versions less expensive?

Compare the price of a S&W 617 to a S&W 626 and you will see that when the manufacturing costs are truly equal, the retail prices are close to equal as well. The guns you mention and typically cast/blowback as has been previously mentioned.
