I use Badman Bullets, 44-40 200g RNFP.. Excellent bullet, and my Uberti pistols and rifles all like them and are very accurate. Trail boss powder make them a ton of fun to shoot, and they are actually pretty clean shooting. They are .428.
I shoot 231 in my 380's. Decently clean, not super clean, but not too bad. I see you have the Lyman book, while a good book, i mostly use it for cast loads. Get a Speer or Hornady. If you want online info, go to the Hodgdon sight. They have a loading section for powders to use...
Hey folks.. loading some for my 30 carbine. Got plenty of H110, but only have plated bullets and can't load them to factory spec. So I've been loading them with some Unique and having fun shooting, but when I'm out of plated, I'm going to buy only FMJ for this load.
Where are you guys...
Yep... like some of the guys said.... SMK168 w/4895 . Nothing else any better in my M1A loaded....
And it's true. You won't get full potential until you find that load for your rifle. Factory just won't get there.
AAcd, I've tried them all, and i always come back to 231. It just seems to work well in my 380's. Sig 238, Beretta 85. With some powders I'd get stovepipes and ejection problems, but with 231, it's got the snap that is manageable, but very accurate. My wife can drive nails with her 238...
For 45/70, Hornady starts out at 39g and ends up around 45g. Hodgdon for the same bullet, starts at 47g and ends at 50g. With the same powder, IMR4198. That's a big difference.
Mine stretch everytime... I trim them back to max oal.. They usually are .002-.005 thousands beyond max. I get a stray one that may be more, but for the most part, that's what I find, everytime..
Got a box of X-treme plated 30 carbine 110g bullets. I know you can't push these being plated over about 1500fps, but fmj 110g w/H110/296 is running about 1900-2000fps. Haven't used H110 much but know you shouldn't load it down below minimums.
What powders are you guys using to load...
Yeah, i see that Sunray.. Weird. The max load in the newest Hornady book is like 45.3, and starts at 32 with IMR 4198. That's a big difference... I know, even at approx 1700, with 40g, it kicked like a mule... :) I'm wondering since it's the only gun i have that has ''semi buckhorn''...
I've started shooting my Marlin 1895 22" 45/70. I've only tried my loads because i want to use jacketed bullets instead of lead for hog hunting. No matter how i adjust the buckhorn sight, i shoot low at 50yards. Now, i'm nowhere near max, but i'm running 1700 + fps with my loads. Bullets...
IMI is pretty good brass. LC for me lasts the best. When i get once fired brass, i always use a small base die first time. If it's shot in a machine gun, then you may experience some sizing issues when you try to use it with just a full length die. After the first time, i just use neck...
For 308 and 223/556, i have one of each caliber Giraud Tri-way. It's spot on, consistent and easy to use and fast.
For 270, 300 mag, 30-06 and such, i use a LE Wilson trimmer with the micrometer.
You absolutely get what you pay for. If it's cheap, then it's going to be just...
I've tried Simple Green HD "Purple" with Lemishine, and got good results. About the same as Dawn and Lemi, but less suds. But, you have to use more of the SG, so I'm back to Dawn/Lemi and it's more econmical and get the same results. But, with the Lemi, it does shine much more than...
I was thinking I may have to up the powder charge like RC said. I use 6.0 in 44-40, and it seals great, but the case mouth is much thinner also. Will just put up with it if going to 6.5 doesn't seal it off. It shoots fun, my wife shoots the lights out with the old cowboy guns and the smile...
I'm having some issues with a lot of blowback on 45 colt.I'm loading 200 grain round nose flat point with 6.3 grains of Trail Boss. It's a nice shooting load but it's awful sooty. I'm thinking that I may not be crimping hard enough. I'm thinking it's not got enough crimp to seal the chamber...
