    miss-fires/hang-fires

When a miss-fire/hang-fire happens, usually with a .22 Long Rifle. Is it mainly due to a primer malfunction, no powder, defective powder, etc, besides the gun not hitting the primer with the firing pin?

Striker Fired Failure To Fire Poll

I do know that the striker fired pistols indent the primer with less impact than their hammer fired counterparts. Have you had failure to fire issues with striker fired pistols?

    Firing Pin

I know that a longer firing pin is available for the 625 - it is a floating firing pin. Does anyone offer a longer firing pin for the older S & W 25s? I am talking about the guns with the firing pin affixed to the hammer. Thanks, John

    Dry firing

Another thread got me wondering about our dry firing habits. All of my life I have I dry fired my S&W, Colt, Taurus and Ruger double action revolvers and Ruger Single LOT. All WITHOUT snap caps. I have NEVER had a problem. I did break a firing pin of a 1980 vintage Colt Sheriff's Model on...

    Dry Firing Rim Fire

I realize that .22 LR's are rim fire guns, and that dry firing is potentially harmful to those guns. Yet, I have heard that many modern guns are unaffected by this practice. I would like your oppinion on this, because I have just purchased a Ruger MK II, and dry firing is a routine part of...

    striker fired??

Help me understand all this striker stuff. Is the striker what I always called the firing pin?? I see a lot of references to striker fired vs. hammer fired but don’t understand why it is important. Searching didn’t produce much specific information on the differences, or why one is preferred...

    Dry Firing

I recently read an online article about using fired cases when "dry firing" to avoid damage to the firing pin, pin stops, breech face, etc. It seemed like a reasonable suggestion. The article then said that one should never used a fired rimfire case to do this. I'm not sure why this would not...

    Dry Firing?

...a rifle/shotgun/pistol was bad for the gun when I was growing up. This may be a dummy question, but I've been hearing people talking about dry fire practice etc, so I'm curious, whats the skinny on dry firing? Am I unnecessarily stressing the firing pin if its not landing on a primer? Is...

    Dry firing

What is the problem with dry firing guns? I know that it is not good for the guns, but why? Also, on another post of mine, somebody noted that it is safe to dry fire the CZ 452. Is this true? If it is, what other guns can one dry fire without causing any damage to the firearms?

    Chain Fires

...over the ball or a lubed wad over the powder and proper size balls to prevent this but one knowledgeable person at the range said the only chain fires he's seen (or had) were from the nipple end where a cap came off before it was fired and ignited when the closest chamber was fired. Man...

    Dry Firing

...have snap caps and use those but I've been told that this is an obsolete myth that dry firing hurts the pistol. I'm hearing that modern quality firearms (Sig, HK, Glock, CZ, etc) don't really care too much how many times they've been dry fired and a pistol that breaks from dry firing is...

I remember being told as a kid that dry fireing was not good for the gun. Is this true. I have read recommendations in a few different threads, on this forum and others, saying to dry fire to loosen a new gun a little, to practice drawing and firing, etc. Does this differ from one gun...
