    Weak side carry

No. I carry a light knife like an Opinel or Case. two clips. flashlight OC card case (credit cards, dl, ccw, etc.) handkerchief zippo (w/butane insert) You should carry the means to have fire. I like zippos but they dry out fast so I use a butane insert so it works like a bic. Rollagas are...

    AUS-8 (8Cr13MoV) Steel

...the steel. I really never had any issue with it. For utility knives, the maker's have favored "lesser" steels. For example, I like Mora, Opinel, and Case, none of which come with a steel that's more "super" than AUS-8. Given how I use them, they dull faster than I would like, but I've...

busted kitchen knife blades???? what to do...

I made a very battered (used as a splitting tool, hit a lot of times with hammers over 30 years) Opinel picnic knife into a mushroom knife for my mycologist son. The steel holds a decent edge. Some horse hair provides a brush to clean up edible finds on hikes. Many of worn out or broken knives...

    Camping/woods knife

The saws on some Leatherman tools are pretty good too, but the saws on all Victorinox knives that have them are sharp and efficient cutters. Their design and QA/QC are world class. The Vic files are also always well made, which is hit and miss on any other brand of multi-tool including Leatherman.

    Camping/woods knife

There's Only thing better is the Opinel #12 saw, but it is pocketable only in the sense you can put it in your hip or jacket pocket instead of it rides in the front pocket so well you have it always with you. It is light and small enough to carry in any size pack (well, it would have to be a...

    Buck 110 - A good choice

The Trapper was a gift a long time ago. It was my first case, first carbon blade, and first with bone handle. I guess the old school look with the fact it was gift just kinda resonated with me. And I’ve used it alot over the years to include edc. Rides good in front pocket along side my...

    Buck 110 - A good choice

...whatever. I reserved the main blade for when I needed the power and wanted it sharp. The last couple of years I've been carrying an Opinel No. 8. It's easy to open and easy to keep sharp. The Case I was buying years ago, a lot of them were very tight. So how do you use the Trapper's...

What is the most recent knife you bought?

I carry a #6 quite often, its the carbon blade and has developed a nice patina. Did you get the walnut handle like the one pictured? I have a couple of olive ones but was curious how the walnut is in person.

What is the most recent knife you bought?

Dexter-Russell Beaver. I didn't get to use it yet. Bought it to skin deer and antelope. I've been enjoying my second-to-last purchase which is an Opinel No. 8. Carried it daily now since 2019. It's stainless, but is remarkably easy to sharpen with just a steel.

    Boating knife.

Wallyworld used to ( still has maybe?) a 3-4 dollar " mora" in the fishing section as a bait knife. After failing the Opinel flotation test, I no longer have anything but inexpensive expendable knives out on a boat. Some time back wallyworld had a bunch of cheapo fillet knives out on...

    Hunting belts, anybody wear them?

I've been considering making something along these lines to carry some hunting gear. Just a little something to hold my Opinel or Green River knife, possibly an extra mag, water bottle, flashlight, and a .22 pistol. I like the traditional look as well as being able to wear it over a coat/shirt...

    What’s your wallet (pack actually)

...shirt, so there's no way to forget anything. This is what I typically bring with me -Nalgene bottle full of water -Pocket knife, usually an Opinel No.6 -Earplugs -Facemask -Candy/snacks -Cell phone This is what sometimes comes with me -Reusable hand warmer(s), depending on weather -Surplus...

If you want to take the collar off an Opinel

Yeah, but I hate it when I loan out a knife and it comes back all bloody.

If you want to take the collar off an Opinel

The best way to get an opinel collar off is to just loan it to someone. Once you hear "ping ping ping Oh!", the collar has been removed.

A Different Kind Of Near Miss At The Range

Geez from the thread title I was hoping for some babe pix. (I may be old but I'm not blind.) What a disappointment. Incidentally I carry an Opinel.

    Multi-Tool or Swiss Army Knife

...Victorinox SAK which I have clipped into seveal backpacks, but I overwhelmingly use the blade and nothing else, and in that role I prefer an Opinel, a Case slipjoint, or something bigger. I tend to carry an Opinel lately. I've never had a multi-tool. I can see the value of a useful...

    Kitchen knife recommendations

2 knives I use all the time, a Dexter Russell 4.5 paring knife, for me it works like a very small french knife. The other is an Opinel #112 Opinel No. 112 Paring Knives 2 Piece Set, High Carbon Steel Everyday Use Prep Knives for Chopping, Peeling, Slicing, Trimming, Stabilized Sustainably...

If you want to take the collar off an Opinel

...one of Leatherman's new multi tool not having locking blade and other tools and the reasons given was to make it easier to sell in several European countries. I don't remember any more specific than that. From that I made the guess as to why someone would remove the lock from an Opinel knife.

If you want to take the collar off an Opinel

That collar removal technique is much easier than the one I employed. I've disassembled one of my Opinels and driving the pin out after the collar was removed proved quite difficult. The pin had apparently been bent slightly during installation. I did finally get it apart, but I may or may...

If you want to take the collar off an Opinel

Best video I've seen on this. Why would you want to pull the collar? Some folks want to coat or sand or ??? to make them easier to open.
