I have a Kel Tec P3AT. I like the gun but it's NO fun to shoot. In their defense these pocket rockets weren't designed to be range guns. The advantages with them is small size and low weight. Those two advantages always come with an increase in recoil vs guns of a larger size in the same caliber.
A pal has one and as ugly as it is he's never had a mechanical problem with it. The trigger sucks but meh. I actually like the sights.
I think the above post gave solid advice: save your pennies a bit longer and get a used poly pistol.
What's "better" is purely objective my friend. Personally I like Glocks but would feel no less confident with any of your mentions. New shooters should find a sidearm that fits their hands, has an MoA with which they're comfortable, and is chambered in a caliber that they can control well and...
I've only been carrying for a couple of years but I've found that holster selection and a good belt are the biggest factors. Until very recently I carried a Glock 17 daily with no problems at all under a polo shirt most of the time.
Unless you're in one of those places where printing (or...
I didn't like the texture much either. I put some leftover grip tape from the last skateboard I built on the grip of my Gen 3 and it's great apart from how it snags my shirt sometimes.
Great review man. My stepdad got one last week and it's a great shooter, surprisingly accurate. I prefer 9x19 personally (I know I know I know) so I hope Springfield releases one in that chambering.
I replaced my beloved Glock 19 (idiot for selling it) with a Gen 3 because personally the changeable blackstraps, different recoil spring, and reversible mag release aren't worth the extra money to me. I'm not convinced that one is mechanically superior to the other.
Just an FYI Botach has the KCI Glock 19 mags in stock for a bit under $13
I am not in any way, shape, or form affiliated with that site. I just know how much of a yellow brick quest it's been lately to find full capacity magazines.
Safe shooting everyone.
Given my horrific experiences with 1911s, I would be much more comfortable with a wheel gun if none of my own sidearms were available. This logic of "if x number of rounds won't do it then I'm screwed anyway" is worrisome to me. Considering the plethora of advantages to having extra...
I voted Glock personally. My 17 had a 3.5 pound trigger and I always carried it chambered. Make sure your holster covers the trigger and exercise good trigger discipline (as with any firearm). Mechanical safeties make me anxious......
A friend of mine has one and loves it. I believe it has interchangeable .22lr and .22 magnum cylinders. I've shot it a few times and found it impressive, especially for the price.
Interesting idea........I just keep mine in a retention holster on the bed next to my pillow (don't have a nightstand). The light switch for the main area of the house is just outside my bedroom door so I don't worry about keeping a torch immediately handy.
The only problem I see with your...
I've heard of people doing this, but personally I wouldn't carry one for defense unless that was literally all I had. A cap and ball pistol would beat the hell out of a karate chop but I seriously doubt that a million years of practice would allow me to reload one as fast as I can slap another...
I've owned and carried used a 19 and 17, both second generation. I fired hundreds upon hundreds of rounds through both of them and never had a single problem apart from the 19 failing to fire a Tulammo round that I later discovered had no powder. (Apparently even the Glock needs gunpowder in the...
I'm not sure if you're just asking about holster/carry methods but if you're debating between those two models I advise getting a 19. I bought a 23 for my first carry gun and traded it for a 19 within three months. As much as i tried, i couldn't get used to the recoil of the .40. I was MUCH...
Confession: I've wanted a 1911 in 9mm since I saw The Way of The Gun........
Anyway I've not used one but I've heard great things about the STI Spartan.
I don't have nearly the experience of most of my fellow THR members but here's my take:
I've tried every one of the "service calibers" in a variety of platforms. The 9x19 is, for ME, the best choice for the following reasons:
1. Highest capacity assuming similarly sized sidearms
2. Less...
